Still got the original Simmo, mind you last winter, and believe me, Canberra gets quite cold, the starter was a little slow on mornings where the temperature hit below minus 4. At work the bike is out in the open. Once the sub-zero temperatures finished I stopped having slow starter problems. The original batteries have to be okay at that rate, have you picked up an electrical problem along the line that is manifesting itself in sucking the life out of your batteries perhaps??

a couple of times my battery was 'coughing' up so I bought one of these as discussed here;
Optimate so when ever my bike is not being used i connect it to the optimate with a plug attached to the bike. Battery has been great ever since. optimate also checks whether battery hold charge and shows either good or bad, mines been showing good. I would attach one of these even to a new battery. I highly recommend it. Oh no gel OEM is acid. Gel mostly good if you need a battery to lie on it side.

ps. max mentions little slow in the mornings, thats one of the fears I had starting the bike with a weak battery and causing damage thru 'kickbacks' as has been mentioned once before.

What a jolt to see the Jewells name up after missing it for so long. RIP Julie.

Ditto Max, set me back a few steps also,
It’s strange that somehow some of the old threads survived the hackers

They swapped it for a brand new one, stuck with acid again; no questions asked I didn't even have the receipt, but its not holding its charge too many Monos I guess.

Cheers Robert

Had to change my battery again after Jindy drop.
It sat for 7 weeks while repair got done.Not happy.
I wouldn't think that would kill a battery but from what the batt guy said they should be started every 2 weeks minimum.
Otherwise they can start to sulphate or something... Cheers,
Pete

dj - that's crap. My 6 year old OEM battery sat unused (disconnected, though) for over 12 months and still had the balls to turn the engine over in under 2 seconds...

That's what I love about EFI - first time, every time....
