Tuning after new pipes
#1
I have just fitted a set of Yoshi RS3 cans to my Busa (Thanks for the great deal Guido) but I would like to know from a pro how safe it is to run the bike without a retune?

The reason I ask is I don’t know if I will have the time in the next few weeks to have it looked at and Bike night is coming at WSID. Should I avoid the drags until it’s done, and what about normal street riding should it be ok for that at least?

If it is just cans with a clearer passage for the gas, the bike will just run a little rich. Nothing to worry about unless you are doing long distance at high revs.
I suggest you do all your mods before you go for a dyno then get it set for the setup you end up with.

(sorry, I said it would run lean before but have been corrected - thanks Pete)
I forgot I put a K&N filter in later on and that seemed to restore the fueling on a standard 99 ECU.

if you have your PC on there you can just faten it up with the buttons on the box...
but it'll be safe just run some good fuel if you think it helps

It will run richer But the bike is out in the mapping more from new than any mod you can throw at it (externally) sadly. As said ........ get your set up finalised and then mapped ...............you will be pleasantly surprised. 10/Tenths is your man in Sydney

Faster

I am still amazed that riders spend big bucks on bikes and avoid a decent tune??? (Dyno)

I remember the look on Holgers face after fitting cans and going to you for a re-map Faster!

well spent.

I know will have a crack at me! "Never wake up a Mug".

But, trust me. 2 Busa's and over 140 000 klms experience. get the tune. Get it sorted.

The End.

I have the number for 10/10th’s so it wont be long before it’s on the Dyno just work gets in the way, I have also ordered a high flow K&N filter for it and may even do the air box mod if you guys think it’s worth it

Can you be specific as to who and what you are referring?

I think he is having a go at my post early on.
I first posted that fitting new cans without a map would make the bike run lean but I later corrected it when Faster Faster said it should be rich.
If you go back up and read my post you will understand my mistake.

Fitting new Staintunes to the standard busa made the bike run rich initially but I later took out the baffles and fitted a K&N filter. It then reverted back to its standard run condition.

AND, No I still haven't had it dyno'd. I can tell by the fuel consumption and the colour of the exhausts.

Ok while I was at it I did the air box mod, now hopefully with the pipes and box mod I should be able to shave 0.001 sec’s from my ¼ mile times
