Throttle Position Sensor
#1
I was having the old girl serviced - bike not missus - and I was told the Throttle Position Sensor is operating between 4% to 106% and needs to be replaced.

I'm hoping someone can shed a little light

I assume that if the TPS is reading 4% when the throttle is closed then it is continuing to feed fuel - thus running rich?

Is the TPS a non-adjustable part?

My bike has TRE and PC11, would this affect the TPS?

Can anyone offer any thoughts, thanks Tony

I reserve the remark of BS at this stage.

Under the LHS seat cowling you'll find a diagnostic plug with only wires going into it. Connect these wire up and turn on the ignition --you'll see _COO

the underscore before the COO should be in the middle of the C.

If it isnt you'll need to get a torx driver and loosen the pinch bolt and rotate the TPS a tad either way 'till the undescore is in the middle.

give it a go...... it makes a difference to how well the buggars start

Cheers Gazza I will get them to try it. Was told it was the third one he has had to replace.

Never had a problem when starting, just occasionally get a HUGE flat spot right off the throttle opening.

Pretty limited to who are available to service bikes down here. Good to get some reliable advice.

Thanks

Gazza is this just for starting only or for performance also

what is a torx driver
and where is the TPS ajustment on the bike

The service manual talks about checking TPS coupler input power for correct voltage (4.5 - 5.5) & TPS internal resistances in ohms (1.3 throttle closed & 4.5 throttle open) no mention of percentages anywhere

I've seen a couple of TPS's that have been cracked though.

Ping GDYUP for one

The TPS is on # 1 throttle body, early bikes have 2 TPS attach torx screws, later bikes one .

If i remember correctly, its not your average torx screwdriver either,it is the one that has the hollowed out end to fit over the dimple in the middle of the screw.
If you are gunna start doing stuff to the busa yourself,do yourself a favour and buy a manual.
I found that mine was out of adjustment and when adjusted correctly the bike ran a hell of a lot smoother and fuel econamy improved dramatically.
Phuck its the Phantom.......
There's the V-4 thing - there's just something about it that inline 4s
don't have, and V-twins have too much of.

Na , norm torx is used
TPS is used as input to ECU map --- indicates load in algorithym.

If ya desperate I'll take pics ,

Don't forget to set your idle speed first, no good resetting your TPS if your idle is at 800 rpm.

Hope it helps. Good book this one.

Set it with an Voltmeter is much more accurate by far. The dash unit setting gives a lot of variation.

Yep, cracked mine??? About $200 to replace.

But you get that..................................

It was the least of my worries at the time. Has anyone in Busa land ever had to replace their in tank fuel filter on an 01 model onwards? Better still, has anyone in Busa land (apart from me) ever done enough Klms on a Busa to warrant replacing their fuel filter???
(I don't expect a reply by the way) It's like the question has anyone on an 02 model onwards ever removed their own front wheel? (What part of the tool kit did you use?)
Ping Faster faster for the right settings and voltages on the TPS.

I plan to wash bugs off the clear bit in front of the speedo soon.

The rest will have to wait until a tyre change. f****d if the Bridgeshit 014 is going to do 4200 km to be bald in the guts.

Fuel filter doesn't seem to cut back the tyre wear.

Bastard.

Pan, please pass the airfix cement to help me through this difficunt period.

AS Maj mentioned do the idle speed , BUT while ya at it sync all the throttle bodies with mercury U tubes ( not gauges as IMHO they are all useless --non claibrated )
Sync'e T/B's make idle sweet and just off idle transition smooth.
