My new tracky

Bloody hell, how long have I been gone from the busa club? Came to update my new tracky thread and realised I never started it!

I bought a GSXR750 05 from ebay. It was a repairable right-off, but then was an unfinished project for a guy from RATS. It came up for the right price, so I grabbed it. When Max and I went to pick it up, we were astounded at how brilliant it was, heaps better than the description and photos, neither did it justice. But then the bits started coming out in green shopping bags....... WHO CARES! Max started it up and we both went a bit goofy.

It came with a full set of race glass, which was just nasty, too thin and didn't fit at all. She's had a head knock, so no front fairing bracket and nowhere to put the instrument cluster. I suspect she's had a side knock as well, she now sports a cut-down Yoshie. Looks a bit like someone cut a ding out, and the subframe was twisted. HOWEVER, my mechanic managed to sort all of those things out, and now she is ready to hit the track.

Pan and I booked in for level 2 CSBS in November. Dragged the damn thing all the way to Sydney, unloaded and went through scrutineering in the torrential rain to find out the good news was we had the day off, the bad news was we had the day off. It was too dangerous to send us out so we all got a credit note.

STILL having never ridden the damn thing, I did two quick laps of the Eastern Creek carpark in the pouring rain. At least I know she can stop.

   

AND it turns out Steventh was there with us as well, so it nearly qualified as a busa club TD.
   

I've now booked in for a couple of days, can't wait to get her on the track. Today I am building a seat for her. I've managed to glue two sheets of compressed rubber together and the lid to the tube, but you get that on the big jobs.

So I needed to take her around the block on a test ride.
   

Up the footpath, over the median strip and a few laps of the round-a-bout. All the time wearing a bicycle helmet.

Nothing happened to the RGV, she is tucked up warm and dry in my garage as we speak. Can a girl HAVE too many bikes?

I am officially extremely jealous. A GSXR750 would have to be about the perfect trackie I reckon. I want to do level 2 as well, let me know when you're doing it, I'd love to come "if it fits my stupid schedule"

Pan and I are booked in for 11 April (I think), but I'm pretty sure that day is booked out. Ring up and check though, it would be TOPS to have all three of us running around.

I'm dying to ride the damn thing. My mechanic has told me I am NOT to start her up unless I am about to ride her UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I suspect he knows I'm just busting to start it up and rev the guts out of it in the driveway while my mates cheer me on.

Yup. And electric one at that. Top speed of 25kms/hr, I tested it. Had to ride on the footpath, I was at the pub. Not drinking of course.

Seeing as it is the flavour of the month, I thought it was time for an update.

After being rained out at EC, I decided to get in a sneaky track day at Wakefield with a couple of mates just to test her out.

   

   

First session nice and slow, new bike, new tyres new track. Second session started to push her a bit. Third session gave her the berries; hard acceleration, late braking, going like a champ. I was running around the back of the track when a voice in my head said, GO IN. I looked at the instruments, all was fine, had a quick mental check, fine..... and this voice again, GO IN. There was no way I was going in, the session was still running and I've NEVER come in early. I decided to do one more lap and see if the voice went away. As I came towards the exit lane this voice again, GO IN.

Bugger me. I threw my arm up and hit the return lane. I rode past my mechanic who came out to meet me. 'What's going on?' he asked, 'bugger if I know', I said, 'something is wrong, but the bike's fine so it must be me'. He said, 'always listen to the bike'. I rode into the pits very confused.


   

All my coolant was sitting a few mill deep in my belly pan.

I burned all my fingers ferreting around, while I got some EXCELLENT advice from various people, the best one being, drain the coolant out of your belly pan and get back out there and see if it gets any worse.

My mate Lee and I removed the belly pan and found that ALL the coolant was in the pan.

   

Had I continued, the bike would have overheated and I could have done SERIOUS damage, or had I done one more lap, the coolant could have hit my back tyre as I climbed to the back of the track and I could have gone down and taken out the guys behind me.

So it was Leonard and Bruce to the rescue. I dragged both bikes to Sydney and to Leonard (there is a reason we call him Legend).

   

Leonard has spent two weeks pulling it apart and puzzling over it. Have I cracked the bore, or is it just a gasket? We won't know until Saturday at EC. It has been touch and go as to whether or not Leonard would let me ride it, I was not allowed near it until he was sure, but he's prepared to let me have a go. I've been given strict instructions, if anything happens I am to COME IN and hop on the mighty RGV.

While we were dropping off various bikes, I wanted a photo of my three track bikes all together. Somehow a joker managed to leap in the photo.

I just want to clarify that when Heidi said all the coolant was in the pan, ...I didn't drink any of her coolant. Her bike has race fairings, so coolant was in the belly-pan (as opposed to Pan's belly)
