there is a bloke on the 1400 forum always going on about how good his 1400 is, take a look below this is what he reckons about Busa's
i ride gen2 busas and joust with them all the time on real roads not sprayed tracks, and can confirm that a 14 is mostly quicker to 160, dead heat to 200, 220ish the busa is getting ahead. anyone who thinks the busa pulls massive bike lengths is deluded. 200-300 it will kill the 14. but thats another universe.
i'm big on 2nd gear 'punch for street and road' riding, and its here that the busa can't match the 14. thats why i'm interested in a full akra and a 10% drop in gearing on the gen2 busa, to get it stirring a bit in 2nd gear. as is it doesn't have the punch i require down low. puting it into first is too frenetic.
the gen2 busa also feels heavier, and is definitely more top heavy than the 14. 90% of my preferred riding roads the 14 is the quicker bike, by a substantial margain. the busa is still on my shopping list due to its grunt above 7grand, which will often have you exploding into your favourite corner uncomfortably. open sweepers and its is king shit.
if i put a thread like this on the busa forum they would all cry and shit their little pants.
I'd like Petes input here, once you have tuned/dynoed a Busa and deregulated it in the lower gears how does it compare to a 1400, torque wise. I will find out next weekend but its hard to compare unless you jump off one and straight onto the other. The best thing about a 1400 is its down low torque and having owned both the 1400 does feel a bit stronger low down, but in saying that give the Buas a fistfull in the lower gears and it aint no slouch either.
See if I am wrong.
0-100 Busa wins
0-200 Busa wins
0-300 Busa wins.
On the road, in everyday conditions 1400 wins, some of the time. "Low down torque" in the 1400 may feel livelier because the front end is lighter and the Busa front end is heavier. Around the twisties, short and sharp, 1400 wins. At hyper speed, 200-300, Busa wins and I would prefer to be on one due to the comfort factor.
Either way, one should have BOTH.
Don't stress, it's all GOOD!
FP
I reckon my Busa drops into corners quicker than my 1400 did unless going very slow and it feels way more stable, it certainly doesnt feel heavy to me. I agree if I had the money owning both would be fun.
The Busa is very well respected and rightly so. How many years did it take for anything to come close? It is the grandchild to the almighty Katana and so similar in many ways, just way better in all proportionatly. Long live the Busa..

I feel that I am in a position to comment as i owned a k2 1400 with a yoshi full system,(32k) before my k8 busa (18k) and I wrote on this forum soon after puchasing my busa that it is like comparing chalk and cheese. I remeber when i got the yoshi dyno`d the guy kept raving on about how the 14 had more torque than a busa (pre gen2) but in my mind the busa shits all over the 14 in every aspect. As someone else said about roll on at limited speed but this would be very fleeting, as minimal as it takes to drop down a gear. I even found the busa more comfortable as I have had spinal fusion and is probably more to do with the difference in riding position, (and the low k`s overall ). Had to get the seat modified on the 14 as it kept pushing my nuts against the tank to the point of going numb
Hey Steve,
why not put a link to this thread as a reply on the 1400 site.
He obviously is a bit of a wanker if he really thinks 'busa riders would be worried - ie. crying and shitting themselves to know a 1400 rider thinks he has a better bike and is a better rider. Horses for courses with bikes, otherwise all bikes would be the same. From experience the 'busa feels like a slug low down compared to a rocket3. It's not till you then look at the speedo that you realise your arse really isn't that good a dyno.
I for one have never ridden a GSX1400, and would love get the chance.
I much prefer them to the B'King, which I feel would be a closer comparo than the 'busa. But like I said, horses for courses.
Don't ya just love the way everything still gets compared to "The Suzuki Hayabusa" It mightn't be king of the hill anymore, but it's still the yard stick for todays motorcycles, and has reached legendary status. (There's a little bit of wanker in all of us)
