Hi Grant,
I was with 40Plus insurance for many years and they were taken over by a company called FAMOUS Motor Insurance and are underwritten by Calliden. My claim is direct to Calliden and they are paying up front but claiming against the driver's NRMA insurance.

hey ray sorry to hear about the crash- good to see neither the bike or yourself are too badly banged up. years ago when i crashed an old kwaka they wrote it off but i wanted to keep it- insurance said no but if i wanted to buy it back off them i could?! yee ha- i already paid for it once and then insured it so no thanks. will probably be the same with your pipes unless you can sweet talk. they just paid me out going replacement costs for helmet, clothing etc. hope you get back on the road soon- while im sure the mini is good, the more wheels something has the less fun it is.
Ludicrous speed- go!

Just a brief update on this event.
The police advised today that the driver of the 4x4 has been sent an infringement notice.
This means I don't lose excess or no claim bonus level.
My insurance assessor is happy to proceed with repairs due to the quality of photographs provided by the bike shop that did the assessment of damage.
Bike damage for parts and labour came to $4,900.00 and the replacement helmet is valued at $425.
I am back in fully fit condition and off all meds so now I just have to wait for new parts to turn up and be fitted..
I could ride the bike if I need to but it looks shithouse so I'll just go cruisin to keep the battery charged for a while.
Many thanks to all those who sent messages and offered help. Much appreciated.

Just a bit of added info about the damaged parts.
The insurance company has told the dealer that he has to hold them for 3 months. After that, I can have any of them that I want if they don't collect them in the mean time.???? Why they would want them I don't know.
If I can get hold of my Yoshi R77 slip ons and decide not to keep them, Timmy O'Tool has 1st dibs on them. They are being replaced as a set.

Buggso , i think you should delete your posts mate , as legend suggests , you were not going to overtake up the inside as its illegal to do so, and to admit to it, admits liability.you were moving into the correct lane and the offending vehicle failed to see you / look in her blonde(blind) spot then collided with you ..

did she offer any assistance or continued on her way ?

I understand your concern Ozboc but as the kind police constable explained she was travelling in the overtaking lane below the posted speed limit with no other traffic in the area. I was merely passing by when she changed lanes without due care and she has been booked for it. Yes, mate she stopped when the car wouldn't go any further left without making a grinding noise....

I committed no offence, nor exceeded any speed limit. It is quite legal to pass a vehicle in another lane if they are travelling below the speed limit.

Yes, my many years of riding have taught me to be wary of any such manouvre and I was completely at ease giving her a wide berth as I rode by. She simply did not look or indicate that she was about to swerve and change lanes simply to avoid a dark patch of tar on the road.
So, in any case, it is all history now the insurance company has organised for all new parts to be fitted next Monday.
Yahooo!!!

It's legal to pass in the left lane if the driver in the right is under the speed limit. The driver in the right lane could be looking for a turn off or just thinking they are doing the right thing by holding up the traffic to below the speed limit. It is required to indicate intension to change lanes.
