Gen 1 '99 Recalls
#16
I have 2 recalls on my '99 which were both for the can chain as was mentioned was the case above.

I just checked my alloy sub-frame a month ago with a Snap On LED Stethoscope light & magnifier & found no cracks or blemishes in any way despite me doing 3,500km with a pillion & a Ventura rack on it that weighed ~20kgs. We went over some rough roads too including ~200km dirt.

Around 40% of my riding is with a pillion. I also have a 4 into 1. On that note though the sub frame was apparently replaced before I bought the bike off Achilles, (he used to be on this forum) but it was replaced with an alloy one. Were all the alloy units the same or were later variants strengthened? I was amazed mine is fracture free. It seems as strong as Ox as I have given it heaps.

He is always my bitch, but you've left out you jumped it over a water culvert on the road just before it let go. That MIGHT have been a bit of warning!

Cam, it will break again. It is half the price to replace it with another alloy unit rather than the steel unit. B 1's subframe was broken almost all the way through at the higher of the bolt on points on the left hand side, just back from the bolt. For 2.990Kg's extra, it is worth putting a steel one on before or when it starts to break the alloy!! Check it whenever you can mate untill then.

a huge +1 on this one, dude!

........I was very lucky my mechanic found my crack Ghastly when he was doing some work on my bike (it does make me wonder exactly how long it was there though - I do the occasional two-up faster-style riding with the gear rack fully loaded as well.......the possible consequences of such I'd really rather not think aboutConfusedFrownUndecided)

My sub frame on the '99 cracked returning from Armidale last year, I reversed the gear rack and gingerly rode the last 250 k's and called into Springwood Suzuki, to my delight and surprise the subframe was replaced for cost of freight and labour totalling 96 bucks... after 10 years and 140000 odd kilometres !!! Who says they dont back their product ?? Well done in my book so THANK YOU SUZUKI.Clap

when i tried to replace mine, i was on the phone to Suzuki Aust. for the best part of 50 minutes, and they weren't very obliging or helpful AT ALL !!! Pi_freak

"SPRINGWOOD" Suzuki seems to be the hero in this situation ClapPi_thumbsupClap....from your experience, they sound like one of the BETTER dealerships to conduct business with....can we move their shop closer to the 'Gong, please?!?
