Turbo bike part 1 - Brain transplant
#31
Hi Cas,

Insurance, she aint ever going to get comphrehensive again unless I want to spend the value of the bike again. Currently I have most of the parts together, just got to pick up the water injection kit and the bigger injectors and i will be good to go on the installation.

Currently the swingarm is out of the bike but that is so that it can get electroplated. That should be back in about 10 days at which point I'll bolt it back in and make sure I'm good to go for the convention etc. I will be staying at standard length as this is primarily a road bike and I dont want to give up handling for power. That is also the reason i have declared 250RWHP as my target.

Dyno wise I would like to get the thing mapped by Col at 10 10ths but I hear that he's not too keen on turbo bikes. S&R would be a last resort, and I dont want my work picked to pieces mercilessly if they cant get power out of the thing.

Luckily I have had no problems yet, the TSI unit is in and working, and I will be starting the next step after Jindy and when i have all the parts together.

Regards
Graham

Why go with the water injection over an air to air intercooler?

The intercooler would be better for the street wouldn't it?

Hi there,

I am going for a water injection system basically on cost and space savings. It's going to get tight in there if I go with the intercooler and a good one is going to cost a mint. I will be switching the water so it comes on over a predetermined boost pressure anyway. Anyway I only have to mod the up pipe if I get hold of an intercooler later on.

Bruce, I am everywhere for the plating at the moment. Got some parts from Chrome Factory in Caringbah....bit far away, the swingarm is in at Astors who seem quite professional but they wont chrome wheels, only nickel them. I was also going to see Swifts at Silverwater. One thing I did like about Aster was that they were able to give me a price straight away rather than muck me around, and they can fit anything, you could plate the frame if it took your fancy. IMHO Electromold are overpriced and i wouldnt bother shipping all the way to the police state to get rorted like that. If you want prices PM me and I will spill. That goes for anybody. Lets Bling them Busas, as long as I get a good supply of groupies. (I'm sure a boost gauge will help that)

Graham can you post here if you come across any companies in your travels that you perceive as being professional wrt anodizing. I have a few parts I need done in a few colours.
As for Electromold -- I posted / mailed off alot of nuts/ bolts and a couple of brackets earlier in the year ie High Mount HMF muffler hangers which are already S/S and well linished. I was quoted $140ea .All up the total quote was for just under $800. I had all my bits sent back.
In Sydney hangers done for $30ea.

Yeah no problem Gazza. At the moment I would reccomend talking to Astor at Villawood. They are in the Yellow Pages and clain to put almost any finish on almost anything. Will feed back if they are in the ball park on quoted price vs actual price, but I believe if they quote a price they need to be within 10% of it when they finish the job, or you need to be advised.

Drop me a line Gazza if you are in Sydney and want to have a look at the work they have done.

Mirrors for the road,
Block off plates for the track days and maybe bling bling photos...

How about if I give you the mirrors for free...

...you give me your old bike?

Hey Leonard,

If you dont care much how they look then Metro should have heaps that will fit the bill. If you do care then new OEM is about $120ea.

Do you have to have mirrors on the shootout bike or is that just to ride it on the road?

I don't think many people notice that I still run mirrors, indicators etc on my bikes - after all they are streetbikes!.

Quote:yer at 90psi they are near lockup.

I think Graham is quoting at 3bar... 43.5psi.

Had mine running at 115psi, no problem.

Welcome aboard Geri,
Your gamer than me at that pressure, i worry about fuel lines, filters, etc,
If the lockup pressure is ~100psi as commonly reported by several people whose opinions i have a hi regard for , your saving grace may be if your running ~15psi boost the differential pressure the injectors see is 100psi .

I have meant to ask , how is the "o"ring , plenum working
looked great when you were building it .

Hi Maj.

The "O-ring" plenum seals superbly on the throttle bodies. Since the plenum is fixed to the throttle bodies and has no straps, I was a bit worried a people had said it would blow the throttle bodies off the engine, but that hasn't happened so far, up to 15psi (good guess).
