Hey fellas, Do them TRE things work? Is it worth getting it??

Dont know, but I have been looking at them too.

No reason why they shouldnt do whats claimed,
remove the TR from 1st 2nd and Top.

The two things I keep hearing....

1.... The bike PERMANENTLY thinks its in 5th gear,
great for performance, but not for starting up from cold.
This can be avoided by buying a "Smart" TRE that knows when the bikes in neutral and thinks every gear is 5th.

2....The same effect can be had as a "non-smart" TRE by putting a 6.8 ohm resister into the feed from the sensor for as little as 10c or something similar.

Prices seem to vary from $100 from the UK up to $200 or $300 here in OZ.

Anybody want to correct me ?

They work in the sense that they provide more ignition advance and fuel from the 5th gear map, and the bike becomes " derestricted" in top speed.
I have one for sale at $60 plus postage ( its a Ivans TRE from the USA ) comes ready to plug in. <i></i>

They make a difference, I noticed it coming out of roundabouts when you lazily accelerate out in a gear higher than ideal .(no hessitation)

Cold starting no problem .

$60 is a bargin for a plug in type ,It's a bit of a stuff around to put the resistor it for some.

Won't guarantee smoothness if one is not fitted. They work and work well ...............also have in stock (plug in)

Any side effects? You dont need to get it remapped? or is it better to get it remapped and a TRE?? i got a bmc airfilter and jap tri ovals, and its back firing flames... <i>Edited by: chunkylover at: 3/8/05 9:13 pm

Gazza 4th gear with or without ...................from back in the days of the 5 speed g/box, 4th was considered the stronger gear ..................general rule is that bike is always run in 4th. On my 99 I'm using the removed resistors mod and on my 02 the plug in TRE Both map up fine ........have done checks in other gears and fueling is maintained ....................just a personal opinion, but I feel the smoothness simply comes from getting rid of the retarded timing in the lower gears more than anything else, then once remapped to suit ...............smoooooooooooooth as a babys ass thru the gears . Early days it was the unofficial "Suzuki" fix to snip the pink wire, which simply disconnected the switch but then they realised that this was also loosing their top gear enrichening by doing so..hence they quickly abandoned it ..............unofficially officially unofficial of course

Pete , when you dyno Busa's with the TRE fitted do you do pulls in 4th or 5th gear?
If no TRE fitted what gear on the dyno? <i></i>

Could safely say that all GSXR suzukis need remapping from new and then whenever engine INTAKE / EXHAUST or IGNITION mods are carried out ...................without refuelling to suit then the mod is probably in most cases going backwards In the case of new bikes haven't found one thats right as yet..in fact the new bikes are usually more out (sadly) than the modded or retuned bikes

At a guess (not that I do that Chunky.........I measure) I would say that you are mapped way to rich and also still have the pair system hooked up

coz its not a full system, just cans (coz i like dual look) can i remove the pairs? The blueflames that come out look awsome tho, any harm? <i></i>
