Hiya Billy. Don't want to spend a lot. Trying to cut back on expenditure actually... thinking of selling off all my bling and re-investing on lighter bits...
Do you have any links for details like plastic tanks and engine starter??
Starter plate(might work..)
As for the prlastic tank i'll have to look it up on the brochure they had sent me..i am at work now!
This is where APE gets the tanks from-> http://catalystracingcomposites.com/Pricey if you ask me..
Pan,i can see how you want this to work out but it can't,i have been thinking of it over and over for my 12.
There is no good way to loose weight with out spending cash, lots of them...
My suggestion is to keep the bike with the mods you allready have, loose the side panels and hit the race track.
I was thinking of it too much a long time ago and i realised that the most important thing on the track for having fun is the wheel base....
916 Ducatis' where at 198 kgs dry but they where(and still are) perfect track bikes. It is just that they are short on wheelbase and narrow.
So again shortening the wheelbase is trouble(trust me i know..) and if you do it you'll have reset the suspension again.
Just loose the panels and hit the track man,it your best bet.If you crash you have money left from NOT spending money on the bike!

Pan,
There was a guy over here (WA) doing track glass and he had a mold for the Busa (believe it or not!).
So that would be an easy step, and maybe he could flop out a carbon one!
Set of lightweight (carbon) wheels and when you swap the race glass over, the headlight goes with the road glass as does the tail lights. Blinkers take only a few minutes to rip off. Maybe pillion pegs, and slip on a crappy muffler (if you run a 4 into 1) so if it gets tied and needs to lay down, it's cheap to replace!
I can give you a molded one piece seat unit (you may recall I did photos way back when) which you can cut and shut to get the track set up to suit, and glue on some padding. That seat just clips into stock fittings.
After that, I'd be looking for a glass tank shell with a small bladder or something for go go juice. Steel tanks are heavy. I think it would only take a few hours at most (including swapping the wheels) and away you go! All you need then is an Austin 1800 ute to trailer the Busa to the track!

i sat on one of simmo's mates busa at the drags a few weeks back , no kidding it felt lighter than my old gs500 , + it was running 8 second passes , the owner mentioned you can make a few simple mods to the bike to make it go quicker on the bends , by adding spacers to the bars, and making the chain smaller this reduces the wheel base, and the bike will kick ass in the twisties.

The X1 is a track busa but that level of mod is gonna cost money. In your situation i'd let the rego lapse, remove lights, mirrors, airhorns etc and ride trackdays. Riders like Spencer and Gardiner got real good by learning to ride on clapped out chookies. The key is not being a poser with the most expensive track bike, but having fun with what you got. This way you can always get it registered as the youngins get older and are left on remote control.

Thanks Ian. Any details you could send me re: the fibreglass would be great!
Re: the Austin... I still remember that mod!
You're not selling it, are you? Does it have any chrome bits?

Yeh, we know... but those "a few simple mods" he's made are worth a fair bit, otherwise the bike wouldn't be light and wouldn't be running 8.9's. Maybe next time you see him, ask him how much money that bike owes him...

Yep! Spot on. Probably going to take off the un-needed bits at the end of the year...
I've got an X1, but it's only about 20cm long!
I did Oran Park a couple of weeks ago, 3rd track day on the Busa. Had fun, but to be honest I would have enjoyed it more on a more appropriate machine. I think with limited funds your goal won't be easy - BST CF wheels = a good mid-size trackie, just for starters. And you will be spending a bit on rubber too as I am sure you realise - I put on new BT-003s, and I don't think the rear would last more than 2 or 3 track days at most. I'm keen to do more track days but I'm looking at getting a 600 or maybe a GSXR750 trackie. And on the positive side, after punting the Busa around a mid-sized bike feels like you are on a 250.
And anyone here know a guy who rides a black/grey '08 with the plate BUZA? He should stay away from track days, he'll give Busa riders a bad name (or at least he should stick to the slow group).
Best of luck with this Pan.

Pan,
I'll see if I can track this guy down, I can sort of recall his companies name, but...
As for chrome on the Austin, this beast is getting the works! Already I have an second hand alloy rocker cover!!! PLUS, wait for it.....I have chromed the fan AND the brake booster! This is one hottie.
The exciting bit is the tray and the interior, inside will feature LEDs and in the tray .... maybe a hydraulic tilt tray, but don't tell anyone just yet!
Hi there,
Hasnt been three years but it's been a while. I have no objections if the rest of the consortium is OK with it all.
Please let me know what you guys want to do, if Bruce wants them or Pan wants them or Slow Simmo wants them then it's ok.
I'll inventory the pile I received over the weekend and let everybody know.

Thanks!
I got a front tyre off a mate at RATS for free the other day. Cost me $30 to put it on!

Onya Graham. Maybe keep the secret mods club details to emails as the rest of the members may get ideas about making all the Busas as quick as ours...
The consortium says give em to Pan for the mighty track busa. Hand em ova mate.
To the other guy. Its only expensive if you need to compete with the quick boys on their gixxers et al. If you just want to rock on what you have got then its not exy at all. Pan is quick on the track, if he was on a specialist tracky then he would be faster but would he have proportionally more fun?
Go for it Pan u rule mate.
Sell the bling bits they may cover the cost of tyres for a track day or two.
Bear fess up with some sweet pics of the rocker cover, and the rest of the mighty Austin build.

I reckon you get more excitement, wallowing like a fish out of water thrrough turns and having that front brake lever pull all the way in and not stop you! If it gets easy and you beat everyone, you get bored of it.
