I only recommend the OEM Yuasa and not the gel one. around $140-150 discounted. my last one lasted 9 yrs.

Hi there,

My OEM battery lasted for about 8 years and was OK. When I replaced it I went for the Yuasa YTZ14 rather than the YTZ12S which is the standard battery. The YTZ12S has 180CCA, the YTZ14 has 230CCA (CCA being cold cranking current). The YTZ14 is slightly taller but still fits into the standard battery mount.

Hope this helps, I would go this way if I was you.

Noticed that Yuasa OEM replacement battery is not made in Japan like the original.

As "1hotbusa" said, that's the one I use, my bike has a big bore kit and the ytz14 starts it every time hot or cold.

Has anyone tried an ODYSSEY battery. They are a gel type with very high CCA.
They do many sizes & should have one to fit a busa. I put one in my car 9 yrs
ago & it's still going strong. They are maintenance free & you can even mount
them upside down if required. The one i put in the ford has the same physical
dimensions as the original but has 1200 CCA. The only real drawback is the
cost, eg the car one cost me $290 9 yrs ago, when a good std battery was $100.00. Don't know where to get them though. I think i got mine from autobarn but i will find out when i need one. Put one in, don't touch it for 9 yrs, then fit another, what could be easier. By the way I'm a beer plumber not a battery salesman.

The battery part numbers quoted above are for the GEN 1 model busa 99 - 07.
The 08 and later have a stronger, no maintenance battery fitted but I haven't had it out and can't tell you the model. It is a Yuasa though.

I have a K 8 Hayabusa battery dead after 9 months and 10000 kms decided to try other battery. Well can't be much worse life span. The Battery in the K8 is Gel Yuasa YTX12-BS. Replaced it with a battery from All Purpose Batteries GTX12-BS Gel battery for $95 delivered to door. Don't mind being loyal if I get support or life but willing to try alternatives when support and battery life is lacking.
