Transmission removal
#1
Seemingly I have the 2nd gear gear jump/slip problem. Only done it the once today, pinned it in 2nd and at about 8000rpm, a clunk and then felt like the rear tyre was on ice. Anyone here took the transmission out and if so what sort of a job is it. Is it engine out or can you leave it in ? Or anyone know where theres a guide for doing it ?

Incidently its a 2002 and done 54000kms

Cheers
Chris

Engine out
turn it over and remove the lower cases, not a huge job but read the manual about it first
If your gears have only just started jumping out you may just get them back cut replace the shift forks, check the shift shafts for straight , and be right to go.

Not sure about your "felt like rear tire was on ice" thats not a normal symptom for a gearbox prob unless something exited southward ??? i'd check it further before just pulling the engine..

When it clunked just felt like the rear end slipped, lost grip and had a bit of a wobble. Could it of been the tyre lighting up? I was getting right up it. I have washed it all this morning and lubed the chain, might of been a bit of oily water thrown out under the tyre, I'll give it some beans again on my next day off and see what happens before I get all carried away
