Well picked up my new busa(peral white) this week, Im loven it(just done over 400km). Gusess fucken what. Pulled up in the driveway today, kicked the stand out, got off to open the garage door, as i tured around back to the bike, the fucken thing falls over right in front of me! f*** f*** shit. well i can just punch myself in the face.....

The bike sustained i bit of damage. Broken cluch lever and foot peg, dinted muffer, but mostly heeps for deep scraches all over that beautifully peral paint.

My question is: what to do about it?? i dont really want to go through insurens because im sure it'll make my premium highter.

Do i take the hole bike down to a panel beat shop(get paint code from suzuki)(and bend right over) and respray it, or should i take the fairing off myself and just take them down. not realy conserned about the lever and foot peg. and i was going to get some slip on mufflers anyway. Should i look out for any other damage??

Any help or input would be great, im sure im not the only one whos done this. im in southwest sydeny if anyone could recommend and places. Cheers
Now i'll go and give myself another upper-cut.

Bummer! It only takes the slightest downwards slope and they will roll right off the stand! There is a well-documented sidestand mod on this site. I haven't done it but i'm paranoid about where I park.

You might consider buying new panels. Reality is they will be quite reasonably priced from the states including postage but insanely expensive through any Australian Suzuki dealer. And then you'll have spares for track-days haha.

I'd ditch the exhaust and consider some aftermarket slip-ons or now would be the perfect chance to get that full-system.

Parts Catalogue:

The K8 side/lower fairing is two separate parts. The white part and the silver part in your case.

Oh, and Welcome

Previous models could cost up to 5K through the insurance to fix sidestand related damage, pay your excess and get it fixed right or you will always wish you had. panel shops never match the paint right and the stickers are very bloody expensive, .

Buy from the states heaps cheaper and the panels come with all the stickers on - I bought the front panels and top fairing for under a grand delivered!!! shop around and dont even consider going to Suzuki or local shop they will rip you off.

Poor Bugga.

All the fellars have given some good advice and if you can get another set of glass from the states well I think I would be leaning that way but I spose it's going to come down to a few things that you need to way up.

1. Does your ins have a one claim clause in it that allows you to make a claim for minor damage ( mine does ).

2. If you don't want to use your ins what's your budget ??

3. Do you know a decent painter. They are around but but you will pay extra. Like the fellars say if you get someone to paint it and they fuckit because of poor prep work you can end up with crows feet through the paint or the paint looking like an orange peel if it's not done right.

I would have to agree with the fellars about ins though as we pay all this money for it so why not use it. The one thing that I would have to way up and do some homework on is the option of another set of glass from the states if the price is right ( I have never really looked at this avenu ). If you have say a $500.00 excess and you can get another set of glass for a grand well I know which way I would be going.

Anyway best of luck and hope you get it sorted soon.

Bit Late now but if you do this mod it may save you a next time

Sidestand Mod
It costs nothing to do this- but may save you a tremendous amount of money- namely preventing a tip over. This modification to the Hayabusa involves just taking a dremmel tool and grinding down the metal to create a small notch that the sidestand sits against while the sidestand is down.

A few millimeters of metal removed changes the angle of the motorcycle while it's at rest. In turn you have less chance of a tip over. When you buy this motorcycle- one of the first recommendations from every Busa owner you'll run into is do the sidestand mod first.

To do this mod- grind a notch into both sides of where the sidestand contacts the bracket so it can swing forward a bit more. The notch only needs to be a 1/16" or 1/8" deep.
Cutting a small notch into the sidestand could prevent a costly tip-over

with a new white under no circumstances should you have any paint or re-spray, no matter how much they say "it'll be 100% mate". either full insurance cover and fix with new parts or source out cheaper new parts overseas at your expense. Id be looking to do it via insurance replacing every scratched and damaged part, cud easilt get to $3-4k. and welcome.

Oh and heres a tip, if muffler shows any damage or scratch your entitled to a new replacement. But instead of an OEM replacement you negotiate with the your dealer for an aftermarket set say yoshis and use the value of the replacement muffler which could be $1200 not sure, towards the yoshis. Friend of mine did exactly that, you just need a dealer willing to help you out.

Bummer Resident...

IMHO, claim it on insurance and keep your new toy pristine.

Mine fell off side stand a few years but fortunately, it happened the day after I fitted Oggy Knobs so damage was very minor.

Do the side stand mod. As the other members said, it costs nothing and can save you heaps.

Nowadays, I ALWAYS park in first gear to reduce the chance of it happening again.

It is a shame that other manufacturers don't follow Harley's lead on this one. Once weight goes onto sidestand, it locks into position and cannon be retracted until weight is removed.

Good luck with repairs.

No matter what they say i am yet to see a painter perfectly match the paint there are very few who even have the colour charts/chips, new colour like the white will be just about impossable, they will want to paint the whole bike to cover the mismatch, so a whole sticker set would be needed
it just becomes too many headaches for a job you will be unhappy with.

Im sorry to hear about it mate.

Take my word for it that suzuki will not give you the colour code,
( been there done that) an i had to source it from an aftermarket paint dealer in the states.
Difference is mine didnt mismatch because the whole thing had to get
done. Yours on the other hand might not match up
when you get it done because its only one side..

If you have insurance,i have no idea what your excess it but i
think its better of to pay an get it done right, new fairings etc
from suzuki.

You dont want the headfuck mate, trust me.

There are not many things that could be worse than that happening on your first ride.
It really sucks.

Hi residnt e

I read a thread on the forum a litttle while ago about a member who had a similar problem. He ended up taking the bike to a paint "restorer" and was very happy with the job. I guess the success depends on the damage but it may be worthwhile investigating before you spend big $.

Try doing a search on Paint, restorer, Buffing - forget it here it is from Monyx (Ive got far too much time on my hands)

Thanks blokes - paid a visit to Paul out at Redback racepaints - nothing I couldn't have a go at I spose but naturally I got nothing in the shed nor the knowledge/technique. Service while I waited, coupla different tubes of stuff applied, 3000 wet block, two buffing wheels (he mentioned need heat which is not generated by hand polishing). I was lucky...must've had 0.5mm of the 1mm clear coat left to play with 'cos back to new which is good as the blue-pearl in the black would be hard to match on the K5 black/silvers.
etc.
