How to scare off potential riders. Throw stats at them.

www.transport.qld.gov.au

While these are scary, what about finding some positives on motorcycling emission reduction, less congestion. Why can't riding gear be classed as PPE? and how about helping more riders attend advanced riding courses. QT used to run them so why don't they start them up again?? Yeah its all doom and gloom for us riders!!!

What great advice the QLD government is offering which is sure to scare off any upcoming motorcyclist. Fear and ignorance breeds contempt and in a world full of high fuel prices, motorcyclists will be targets even more than they are now. People that go into government usually consist of the kids we all hated at school progressing to some sort of government public service job paid by the tax payer which allows them to spew out their small brained schemes. This is just an extension of pea brained thought which needs to be buried before it takes hold.

There is an article in this months Motorcycle Trader that points out that the stats are misleading when compared to the number of motorcycles on the road. The article compares the number of accidents and fatalities today to those of a few years ago and compared to the increase in number of bikes on the road the proportion of accidents has actually fallen. It goes without saying that if the number of bikes ridden increases then unfortunately the number of accidents will also increase.

South East Qld Stats

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These stats are interesting reading.......................,

"Some very good news and hopefully it does not jinx any motorcycle rider in the community.Last year, as you know, 25 motorcyclists died on roads in South Eastern Police Region. 19 on the Gold Coast and 6 at Logan.
So far this year, four motorcyclists have died on South Eastern Police Region roads. One on the Gold Coast and 3 at Logan. At the same time last year, 9 motorcyclist had died on South Eastern Police Regions – 6 on the Gold Coast and 3 at Logan.
The reduction in motorcycle fatal crashes is wonderful news from the police, emergency services, other government agencies and the community. It is very pleasing that motorcycle riders are heeding the warnings and dangers of riding, complying with the road rules and riding in an appropriate manner.
Sorry for all the stats, however, they are a method of emphasising the good work being done by the community to reduce motorcycle fatal crashes. That good work, in my opinion, stems from the efforts of all persons on the Gold Coast Motorcycle Safety Working Group. Keep up the good work".
Some good news indeed and let's hope it all continues....safe riding to all this weekend and above all

Think safety - ride safely

I don't know about other capital cities, but almost every single motorcycle police officer I see here is not wearing a jacket. Just hooning around in their blue short-sleeved t-shirt. And yet the minister wants to jam this crap down MY throat. How about LEAD BY EXAMPLE. I got these same statistics in a brochure via snail mail about 7 months ago.
