Clicking Noise -Hard Braking/Accelerating

Experienced a light clicking noise from the headstock area of my 08 Hayabusa a couple of weeks after picking it up.
lived with it, thinking mechanic at first service would pick it up and fix it.
No surprise when they didn't!!!
Got the shits with it last weekend and decided to take it on myself.
Thought that it might be a bit of play in the head bearings and tried to tighten them, loosen them. No good, noise was still there!!!

Really got the shits and did some lateral thinking. Thought I wonder if the forks are sitting where they are supposed too in the triple trees??

Loosened all the triple tree bolts on one side, nothing happened. Did the same on the other, with a large clonk the left hand fork seated it self properly and the noise was gone.

If you have a clicking noise, try this!

I have the same noise on decelleration into slow corners.
I'll check it out.
Can you tell us more about how far the fork dropped etc?
Did you do this with the font wheel supported or just on the sidestand?

I thought it was coming from the brake calipers and couldn't find anything rubbing or sloppy down there.
It certainly doesn't appear to be affecting anything.

Yeah, already had the top triple clamp undone due to mucking around with the head bearing adjustment. So leave them loose, and then undo the lower ones, don't tighten any up until they have all been loosened!! Did mine with weight on centre stand!!

I bought some fork adjuster bling covers from the states that really didn't fit all that well. I asked the man if they were the correct ones, he said he fitted a set to his and they fitted perfectly. For me there just didn't seem enough fork adjuster through the top yoke for me to attach them to.
So with all that in mind, and with the reset fork height, they fit a damn better than they did before!!!

Hope it fixes your bikes, nothing more unsettling than clicking noises, and I can only imagine a stress fracture of a fork tube if you leave it too long!!

The fork dropped so quick, but going on the fork adjuster bling I purchased, I recon it dropped at least 0.5-1cm!!

Are you sure the bottom 2 pinch bolts werent just loose?
I had a friend turn up complaining his was making a noise in the front
end & it turned out to be a bolt missing & the others were loose.

There is suppose to be an air cap between the top of the fork & the bottom of the top plate form factory BUT people do drop it through
the 3 to 4 mm to help front end steer.


This can be done without any support eg jacks, stands , lifting device as the forks can not push pass the draess top plate.

Definately not loose on mine, but they could be on others I guess!!!

I'm leaving mine just where it is, noise gone, very happy!!

I went over my bike very carefully today and found no loose bolts or uneven fork legs.
What I did find is that the front preload was not set to the stock factory settings.
They were wound out 1.5 turns from the stock setting of 4 full turns.
I have set them back to stock and will check the performance as soon as I get a chance on dry surface.
I must say that the setting that they were on felt very good to me from day 1 and if they are not as good on stock settings, I will put them back where they were.

Just thought I'd check the workshop manual for the correct fork height in the top yolk.
The specified distance from top of yolk to top of fork is 5mm.
I'll check mine again, and see where i'm at!!

I'm glad i didn't buy a new busa then ??bought a 07zx10r instead , wouldn'. part with the 05 busa.

Now this is odd and I suppose you can expect some issues with a new model.

The Owner's Handbook that comes with the GEN II busa says that the stock settings for front suspension pre load are 4 full turns out from fully wound in.

The Service Manual contradicts the Owner's handbook and says that the stock settings are 6 full turns out from fully wound in.

As I said earlier in the thread I found mine to be factory set at between 5.5 and 6 full turns out. I had wound them all the way in and then out to the recommended 4 full turns per the Owner's handbook but now realise that the Service Manual is in fact the factory settings.
I have reset them at 6 full turns out.

The workshop manual is slightly different in it's explanation of how to check the adjustment though, Looking at the lines on the shaft to give you your adjustment settings.....all good if you could see the lines through the rubber mounted handlebar holder!!!

I think I'll recheck my settings and put them to factory and see what happens!!
