Running in k8
#1
G'day all,

merry easter. anyone able to give me some advice on running in the new k8. I was reading a previous thread in this forum which suggested that you need to rip into her. The dealers say that you should not be so hard on the rev range for the first 1000km.

advice would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Opinions are wide and varied, you get to decide, its your bike. From a safety point of view, a dyno run in may be easier on the licence when it comes to bedding in the rings!

Ride it like you stole it bro, its all in the maintnance!! change that oil etc.............. they say its very important to rip into the busa and get those rings sealed to stop the blow by which contaminates your oil

First 1000 keep it under 5500- 6000 ish
1000 to 1600 start to open it up (here & there)
1400 start drag racing (I went a bit early)
it worked for me, BUT always get the motor to operating temp before you flog it Pi_thumbsup

it's commonsense to get the bike to operation temp before flogging it.. well to me it is... Coolsmiley

I did it this way and it seems to have worked fine.

I used the Owner's handbook as a guide (as I do)

I set the shift light to go at 4,500rpm for the first 500ks and shifted at that sometimes.
I also went up to about 7,000rpm a few times but not flogging it, just accelerating hard.
After the 1st 500k I reset the shift light to 7,000rpm and left it there till after the 1st service at 1000k. While it was set on 7,000rpm, I took it up to redline on 1 or 2 occasions.

After the 1st service at 1,000ks, I reset the shift light to 9,000 rpm and have left it there.
If I am giving the bike a handful, by the time the light goes off at about peak torque, I shift or back off before I hit the rev limiter.

Bike now has over 4,000 ks on it and has not used any oil.
