The Power Wars
#1
G'day one and all,

So, we all think the Busa is the best thing since sliced bread? That it's the best darn sports tourer since the CB750 hit our shores in 1969! That it's the bike all others are measured by? And by far has the most power for us mear mortals that try to hang on to this beastie. Hey, I would have to agree.

Today opened a new chapter in power, so we have all seen the results of the mufflers/full systems, the air box mods, the filters and re mapping, and we generally know what the result will be, give or take a few ponies. So you ask, what the hell is this all about?

Simple, OKay, so I know I'll be thrown down a well and pissed on for this slander, however there is a new king on my dyno. This bike had a muzzy full system and a PC3 and NOTHING else. The best result from a busa has been 181 hp, this baby hit 184 hp and I think there was more to come. Available time let us down.

Now I hang my head in shame, that bike was a ZX1200, and I was stunned. Man did that thing hum. It's now time to get even.

I hang my head in shame.

Regards Col

There ain't no shame Col!

According to most articles I have read around the traps, the ZX12 may show more ponies but the Busa is faster - all academic I suppose, cos power and speed (at the top end) is one thing BUT just stand the two bikes side by side and no further words are required, the Busa shits on the Kwaka hands down! I am not biased you know!

G'day Les,

You biased? If you put them side by side, I only ask one question, Who will put the mail in the slot?

Also, my understanding (based on a fairly popular Canadian article that was doing the rounds, and a little bit of logical extrapolation), hp does not automatically translate into km/h. The "conclusion" of that article was that the ZX12 was let down by poor aerodynamics.

1 way to ensure you beat a ZX12 would be to put a Saturday morning paper (such as The Age) with all it's magazines into the letter box...

Col,
I suspect you might get a few replies on this subject. A couple of questions though, we are talking about '3' hp correct? Across the spread of the rev range, where was the power made? Was it all up top and were there any dips?
I would say that the ridability on the big black dyno is equally important. Your a brave bugger you know, we know where you live!!!!!!

Sorry guys but this green meanie is mine.

Pure straight line power on both graphs and road.

Whats more it goes around twisties like a rocket sled on rails.

A bonus is that it doesn't look like a rhino going backwards.

Ciao.

Owning and riding around on such a unique machine as the busa doesn't mean one cannot appreciates other manufacturers machines also, had there been no busa i would have bought the ZX12, no doubt about that,,

i am sure the ZX12 is all that you say it is and probably more, but when it comes to styling i think it falls well short of the busa benchmark - however, that's just my opinion..... for what it's worth,,

cheers

Where do I start? Do I say something glib like "Oh you're the guy that bought the ZX1200". Or something a bit more astute like "For the money you paid I would want 195 bhp".
I'm the guy with 181 and heaps more mid range. I wonder how much horsepower I could make if I matched your investment. We'll soon see.
Col, the record won't last a week.

G'day all,

Shit, what have I done? A'm I to be pissed on from a great height, have to look over my sholder at night or for fear of attack never sleep again?

Terry, good on you for going above the current power limits, however, the busa hunter is about and is keen for food. Be carefull of a GSXR1100W as it has 185hp and is real mean, and I mean real MEAN. It's brutal and takes no captives, this thing is evil. It my not have a lot below 5000 rpm, due to the carbs but it goes off like a luna rocket from there. It often prowles the putty road looking for food.

Be this at it may, an even worse evil is about to hit the streets. A busa with at least 220hp.

Where will this all stop; Never I hope.

That comment about 220hp had me drooling in the cornflakes.
If I sell the kids and missus to the arab traders can we cut a deal????

Frosty - if you strike up a good enough deal with those traders, you will should be able to get 220cp easy....

cp?

camel power....

Col - that'll teach you for being controversial. You may as well have walked into the Hells Angels clubhouse and stated "I have found a bike that looks better than a Harley" and despite being technically correct, you wouldn't be very popular in that arena.

Seriously, nobody thinks any less of you despite the statement.

G'day Frosty,

I've arranged a buyer to call on Sunday. His name is Achmed, and will have the cash.

So when do you want the power?

This has been good fun.
