A couple of you guys asked me about my Phillip Island times on the busa a few weeks ago. Yesterday I managed to get timed for one session. After a warm up lap I recorded the following times on the busa:
2.08
2.05
2.04
2.04
2.01
The session then got cut short because somebody crashed (not me). I had clear track in front of me at that time and am confident my next lap would have been sub 2 min. Maybe next time
Talking to a mate at the Reefton yesterday, and he did a track day on Monday. He said he was doing 48's on a R6 with road tyres!I know he can ride, blows me to the weeds. .I cant believe it,i even got creamed up there yesterday by a guy riding a BMW GS thingy! Think a 600 is in order for up there.
Wow, only 31 more seconds before you get the lap record.
Another 10 laps and he would be there!!!
I went down to PI for a Scott Charlton ride day last week. Seems to be a lot more tuned to the A- and B- grade racers. However, after a couple of sessions circulating with the 'fast' group (not my choice - it was where they could fit me in) I finally got relegated into the 'slow' group and really enjoyed the day. 20mins per hour from 9am till 5pm. Plenty of time to kill a tyre.
It was interesting to be out there getting passed by the quick blokes and watch the black lines appear as they rounded me, not even missing a beat. Now Scott has been around in the high 1:36's and I am in the 2:10-15 class. Many of these guys spent the interim break doing suspension adjustments and mods to their bikes (tyre warmers were seen on some slicks).
The point is, a rider who should know, tells me that the 2 min lap is the yardstick to aim for. In my case he suggested the Corner School might help erase the 10 seconds required. Any comments on the Corner School and hints on what they teach?
I noted a bronze Busa in the 'Medium' group but didn't get to catch up and talk.

Hi guy's my first post and interesting to see you guy's like to do ride days I used to race a GSXR 750 superbike a few years ago and got down to PI for a ride day on my 2002 mod black and blue busa and could easily lap in the mid to high 1.40's my best ever was a 1.36 on the gsxr and I found you really have to have the suspension set right to get the best results also the type of tyre you run will have a huge impact as well I like to run dunlop 208's and found them the best for the way I ride the only problem I had was ground clearance scraped the fairing and footrests and the left hand engine casing as well but had a ball and would do it all again tomorrow stay safe and upright and cya's all later regards Mike D
the oz superbike school do cornering technique courses based on Kieth Code's Twist of the Wrist curriculum. Level 1 is a great course that will build confidence and assist greatly with your track and road cornering prowess. haven't done the second course, but will do it next spring.
Level 1 looks at Survival Reactions (Kieth terminology)
SR1 - slowing down in the corner
SR2 - moving to the inside too early
SR3 - steering too slowly (counter steering not consciously controlled)
SR4 - holding on too tight (stiff arms when scared )
sudo SR5 - concentrating on stuff too close to the bike or on the bike itself (not looking thru corner).
To fix these, it is better to do the course than interpret my crappy explanations (legal litigation and stuff )
That's very interesting Mike45. The fastest time I know of that has been done on a busa was 1.46...and that was Adam Ferguson...pretty good rider I believe.
If you've been timed on your busa in the mid to high 1.40's, I reckon that puts you into the "pretty damn fast" catagory.
Good stuff.
