Came across this and thought it was relevant...

you tube clip

Obviously they (coppers) were just framing the guy... he was innocently driving a stolen car and if the friggin cops hadn't intervened the thief would've driven slowly AND returned the car undamaged with a full tank of gas...

Merry Christmas

Fergus,
only completely and you still haven't contributed to the thread, just turned into a turd burglar, sorry, thread burglar. I reckon you might be a traffic From one of my previous lives I found that even general duties coppers hated traffic coppers, shit, I once knew a traffic bloke who tried to cut his own throat while shaving one morning when he saw his uniform hanging off the back of a chair and realised what he had turned in to, couldn't accept the fact!

Have a nice day.

Max - there are a heap of really good uniformed brothers and sisters out there looking after us, I certainly hope they have a safe Christmas out working on this special day of the year. Hats off to you blokes.

Max, you've done it again...reverted to type and only confirmed my original point - It's better to keep one's mouth shut and let people think you are an idiot rather than opening it and confirming the fact. But you probably didn't get it the first time, so it's a bit pointless reiterating it again here. I'd be happy to debate the topic with you anytime, but without the expletives or the personal attacks. Have a great Xmas and I will await the next instalment.

Sorry fergus you are not going to win this one, lack of expletives or not.Too many people have been burned on here to see the good coppers in a better light. As the govt chooses revenue over reasoning when they hire traffic coppers the general publics exposure is generally to the worst kind of coppers, hence the distaste and deep resentment.I know coppers keep a record of those who got off charges in court and the next time they see you back driving, look out.Revenge for being proven incompetent runs deep.Hiding behind poles with their fluoro vest tucked behind them,at the bottom of hills, right on a change in speed zone, hiding in the bushes on a straight dual carrageway, parked speed camera vehicles with the speed camera in use sign in front of the vehicle not behind the vehicle as you pass it you are already booked. All trickery to improve their catch. No police patrolling up and down a road that everyone can see and mentally slow down for.Just a ticket in the mail.Improving road safety my ass.People aren,t fools and when you see the real agenda and how you are treated, all repect is lost.No one likes to be booked, but people know when they have been shafted with now no contesting of loss of licence, thrown in for good measure. Some years back now but I was working in Sydney and boarding in a certain hotel. Anyhow come after closing time on a friday night and the H.P. cars would lob into the back dark carpark and these creeps would then set themselves up to free beer and watching Porno movies projected onto the bar wall. And drive away after.

Here's my take on this:

Most people only deal with the cops [esp Hwy Patrol] when they've been pulled over for breaking the law, even if it is only a minor infraction. How they treat you greatly depends on your attitude and mannerism. You only get one chance to make a first impression and in this case it counts for a lot. I got let off doing 96 in a 60 zone once coz I didn't f*** the guy around. I pulled over straight away, had the helmet and gloves off and license out before he'd even done his U-turn and pulled up behind me [I was on a 250- I wasn't gunna run!]

I've had other dealings with the cops, when my younger sister had drug-related mental illness problems over a period of time and eventually took her own life 2yrs ago. The cops were fantastic. My niece was the one who found her mother's body and I can tell you no 8yr old should have to see the f*&^ing mess that she walked into. Much worse than anything I've seen on CSI. The Senior Detective who'd been on the force for 27yrs said it was the worst scene he'd ever walked into. The young Proby only 6weeks out of the Academy was still getting counselling over a year later, and probably still is.

I've met other cops including Hwy guys when I wasn't getting busted and most of them are ok. Most Hwy guys are petrol-heads, whether they be into cars or bikes. The thing is as most of you know, there's no substitute for good training, and these guys see the result of people without good training wrapping themselves around trees or other vehicles full of innocent bystanders all the time. They're just doing a job, and quite often when trying to do their job, they get given attitude.

Motor vehicles can be lethal weapons and I guess when you attend regular fatalities on the roads it's gunna change your perspective a bit. Don't get me wrong- I hate the quota system, but the guy with the radar gun isn't the guy who made the rules. Personally I reckon all fixed speed cameras should be removed. There should be a shitload more red-light cameras. The penalties for running the red should be doubled and an extensive ad campaign run to make people aware of it. Double the number of marked Hwy cars patrolling the Hwy as was the original intention of the Hwy Patrol. I don't care if there's a plethora of unmarked cars on the road as well. If you ain't doing the wrong thing, you don't have any worries.

No, I'm not a cop, and I don't have any mates that are cops. I drive a ute as a courier for a living and every day I see countless morons on the road with no idea. I've done just over 230,000km in the last 3.5yrs [and am still running on the original brake pads and clutch!].

Every day I see over a dozen cars run red lights. Every day I see P-platers exceeding their speed limits by a considerable amount. Every day I see non P-platers as well doing really stupid shit. Jeezus, I once got overtaken by a Learner driver on the M4 and I was doing 120!! And no, the plates hadn't just been left on the car. Junior was at the wheel with Mum quite happily sitting in the silly seat waiting to die. The other thing is tailgating- 3seconds? Some folks don't leave 1/3rd of a second! And I'll bet they're the exact same people who don't know how to use a brake pedal properly to avoid locking it all up. I can sympathize with the cops when they catch people doing crazy shit on the roads, that's all. Wazza.

I am on the road for about 45 hrs a week, I am also a Courier, Motorbike and Car. I see all kinds of shit, it does your head in when you see dick heads going through red lights in front of you. It doesn't always pay to be first to take off at the lights. What annoys me even more is that I see trams and buses going through Red lights all the time in the Melbourne CBD. I reckon I would see at least 10 car driver every day talking on the phone and texting while there driving. I have been pretty lucky keeping most of my points, because we have a two way radio and other couriers report where the cops are. Man with a hair dryer on st kilda road.....
There is a motorbike cop that gets around the Melbourne CBD on a R1, but I think he's having free lunch a Macca's most of the time....

Improvement in training and roads/signage.If more police were cruising around seeing the day to day, the roads would be safer.Unfortunately more police in cars and better roads costs money, that is why the current methods are in place. The accounts department must run the police force, thats why discretion is rarely used and cameras film every booking,so the bosses can see if the officer upsold the fine, and not provided a warning which cost money and not made money. Its easy to say just don,t break the law,but the reality is that people do on occasion and they don,t always deserve to lose their ability to earn a living over it.I now it must be hard to have discretion when you're being bullshitted to all day and the job is alot easier when things are black and white. No one said their job is easy, they need to realise though, no one appreciates abuse of power as a means of making their job easier.Good people skills make up a large percentage of a successful persons knowledge base.If someone is reprimanded with respect they are more likely to accept their punishment.Any parent knows that.
