Push pins
#1
I have to remove the left side fairing and I have a question about the push pins. I asume that you would use a flat bladed screw driver to lift the head of the pin up to release it, it that correct? Also I tried to view the post about removing the cowls but can't view the photos, is that just something with my computer or have they been removed?

With the pushpins, grab a small screwdriver and push the centre part in (you'll hear/feel it pop).
After you've pushed in the centre, you might need to get a blade underneath the outer section to lift them a bit but they do come out pretty easy.

If you have not seen them already here's a link for the Youtube clips for GenII fairing removal.

Thanks for that. I have seen the videos but thought I would ask as I dont want to break anything. Are there only one type of pin used on the fairings?

The pins all work the same, except there are 2 different sizes + the ones that lock the two halves together underneath. Once you get one out you'll see straight away how they work. You won't break them and if you lose any they are a dime a dozen on ebay.

The cowls are easy to remove once you have done it. The push pins on the cowl you use a flat blade driver as you said, but don't push in the centre to hard, just get under the pin slot and turn the blade round and the centre part of the pin will pop up so you can remove it. What I have done and most will tell you to grease all the pins on the cowl that go into the rubber grommets. By doing this it will help you to remove the cowl easy next time. I bought some rubber grease and used that. I read on this forum to left the fuel tank up so you can see the pin that is on the black piece that runs along side the fuel tank, that pin you have to lift up to remove from the rubber grommet. This one is the tricky one as all the others you pull out. with the fuel tank up you can see the pin on the black piece that way you want brake it off.

Here is a web site that you can buy the hand tool to remove the pins on your Hayabusa. I have a set and I don't stuff up any of the pins. You don't have to buy these tools but it sure does help.

Guy's you are confusing the guy as there is NO push pins on the cowling left or right sides. The centre push in pin are on the black piece under the windscreen Two of them, Four under front wheel plus two under headlight. and two big ones under the two side black pieces that run just beside the front of the fuel tank. The rest are pull up pins that you use a flat blade to lift the pin up (NOT PUSH IN) and out they come. We are talking about GEN2 here and I don't know if other Hayabusas have different pins.
Thanks John

Thanks for all the help I have had a quick fiddle and identified the different types and locations of the push pins and pull pins. I'm just waiting for my bike to cool down to get into removing the left fairing. The weather has been just too good not to go for a ride today.
Thanks again
Andrew
