Isn't technology wasteful.

I know it's not bike related - but it maybe the way society is going.

I purchased 20 large new televisions four years ago to replace the old ones in the Motel. The old ones were REALLY OLD. They had the top dial you had had to select U to bring the bottom dial into play.
We're talking the original colour TVs, 1970s vintage. Anyway when I replaced them they were all working perfectly, and I had no trouble giving them away around town. - they still worked fine.

Now only four years later, the "new" TVs are analogue, so I needed to replace with digitals. These "now old" TVs look absolutely new, as have been used in the motel rooms and never get touched.
They have their original remotes, and these are even still on their original batteries. Now how much do you think I could sell these for? I paid approx $7000 for these only 4 years ago.
Well I started off trying to get $30 each, no takers. Then $10 each - no takers. So I made them free, and advertised them all round town. I've got rid of about half. Now I have to pay to dump the last 7.
I can't even GIVE the bloody things away!! It seems incredibly wasteful, but that's where this consumerist bloody society has taken us. Technology, aint it grand!

You reckon in a few years time you'll just dump your old bike coz the new model has come along and no-one want the old one! - maybe coz it runs on petrol??, or is illegal if it doesn't get 200mpg?

Have you tried the Salvo's or Vinnies??? They have a service where they will come & pick up large items that have been donated.

Or possibly you may be a little too far away for that. But you never know....

What about listing them on ebay or Gumtree or the like????. Pick Only.... There maybe someone on surrounding towns that want one.....

Tried that . . They don't want them - Got a big Notice on front of shop - will not take non-digital televisions. (only one op-shop in town)

Tried ebay, no bites, plus did a search, seems like I not alone.

Thought about set top boxes, but would end up just costing money and delaying the obvious, plus then the guests would keep me awake all night re-tuning and changing inputs / 2 remotes. They have enough trouble telling the difference between the AC remote and tele.
- General public - don't ya just love 'em! Lol3

Well done, I've probably left my run a little late.

They should still be good for VCR/DVD playback, right? How about seeing if your local school/s want them?
"casting dispersions on others credability." And their illiteracy.

Tell the "guvment" you're on the pension. They'll give you one for free.
