Speado healers & sprocket sizes...Help please
#1
Hi all. I am sure that this has probably been discussed plenty of times before, but if someone could help me out, it would be very appreciated.
What does a speedo heeler do ??
I have just changed from a rear 190/50 to a 190/55 and was originally going to change the rear sprocket to a 42T (up from std 40T, and front sprocket std). Due to the higher rear tyre profile, I am thinking about going to a 43T. Understanding that I will lose some top end speed, but I dont spend too much time doing 3 times the national speed limit anyway, and the whole reason is time give me a bit more peppiness down low.
Does a speedo heeler just adjust my dash speedo ?? or anything else. If thats it, I dont really look at the speedo too much anyway (close enough is near enough to good enough), and when the revenue raisers are out, I really cool down. Im not mad, but 5 or 10 kays here or there is not really an issue for me.

Do I need a speedo heeler ???

Thanks for any help that I can get.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you need another vehicle for a reference when calibrating a speedo-healer.......but I don't have one so I'll shut-up now and let someone who knows what they are talking about explain.

Didn't the diameter of the standard tyres match the diameter of the new 22's? Or at least pretty close...otherwise that speedo is out to buggery too!!!!

There is a calculator on the speedohealer website giving you percentages to set it to.

gps is the best way to find how far out it is then the website tells you what percent to tap in. I have 1 on and with swapping sprockets its worth while plus you wont be running up unwanted k's

Ijust fitted one & to get my speedo to read as my GPS I Set it to minus 8.3% & it's now spot on .My bike show's 40,000km but if you take 8.3% off that, it's only done 36,680km. So i reckon it's worth the $130 Aust delivered to correct the trip mtr as well. You can also check your speedo with a stop watch by timing how long it takes to do 5 km.eg at actual speed of 110km/hr it takes 2min,43 sec between 5 k marker's, AT 100 KM/HR 3 MIN & AT 120 KM/HR ,2.5 MINS. I got mine from Pashnit USA. Also if the trip mtr is inaccurate so is your km/ltr &ltr/100km & you can't trust the fuel gauge's either.

Can you run a healer on a car?? My new car is over 10% out. Totally shits me as the old car was spot on. I complained bitterly and dealer replaced the speedo cluster but made no difference. They reckon the sender is spot on, and the odometer seems to read correct, just the speedo reading high. $70k and a shit speedo. Shit Aussie built Toyotas.

I run a 43 back on the bike these days, the speedo on it is about 15% out. But as I know I don't care.

I'd be surprised if any new car has an accurate speedo...worn tyres can make a difference too as they have a slightly smaller rolling diameter than new tyres.
