HID High Beam
#1
Hi Guy's,

I had my Busa K8 out on Thursday and was later getting home. For the first time I used my HID lights that I added a few months ago.

With low beam on all the time using a 35Watt bulb I had no trouble with on coming traffic at all. Just great to have on your Busa.

One problem I found was high beam was very slow to come on full. I have the 55Watt bulb for high beam and bought are 6000K.

Who has the HID fitted, does your high beam do the same?? Not sure if I may have a problem with my ballast on the high beam. Low does not do this at all. Once the key is turned the low beam light is not a little, but once I start the Busa it's working right away. As I have said High beam takes a while to fully glow. If I had no low beam that stays on I would be in trouble for sure.

Many thanks hay
John

Hi John,

I responded to your PM to me and on seeing your post was going to copy it to the public forum. However I could not find it (this is the second PM Ive sent that hasn't got through). So my apologies - I responded.

Because HIDs do not have an element they have to reach operating temperature and this takes a few seconds. Even when warm, if turned off they will still take a little while to reach full brightness (though less time than if fully cold). This is why you can not use your hi beam to "flash" if you have HIDs (one of the few disadvantages). So your "problem" is the normal operation, unless it is taking an inordinate amount of time.

The delay is not usually a problem uless you have a bike that only has the Hi OR the Lo beam operating at one time (like my Ducati). I have had to rewire the headlights so tht the low beam stays on all the time or I would have a couple of seconds of darkness while the hi beam heated up (not a good thing!).

Cheers

Hi Steven,
I haven't received any from you. Don't worry I have now.
Yes I was a bit surprised when I hit high beam and waited for while for it to light up fully. I have checked the time to be full, 10 seconds because it cold here today. But right now after leaving it for a while it right. MMMM have check to see if I have put the right ballast on the high beam. Low beam is on fully once the bike starts.
Thanks again Steven.
