Bike rego in Vic
#1
Hey guys, what's it cost to register a bike in Vic???

I'm selling my house in Brissy so I can't keep the Busa registered in Qld.
It's due now so I may as well do the change over.

Rego $515- last count, thats Melb Metro.

Youll need a Road Worthy Certificate $70 something + any repairs to get RW.

Plates $28 odd last count.

not cheap.

Are you sure I'll need the RWC Volvi??? My bike is in good condition & when I called Vic Roads to get info they said that if I supply the VIN & Engin nos they'll check for insurace claims.
If there's not been any write-off type claims then they probably won't even need to inspect it.

That's what they said anyway. But, you know how it is. talk to 3 different people in the same office & get 3 different answers..........

Perhaps, just perhaps coz theres no change of ownership you might get away without RWC. New owner is a definite RWC. So maybe just by surrendering your QLD plate accompanied with QLD rego papers to prove ownership and details, youll just have to pay the full yr rego. + probably number plate. let us know how you go.

Well, I'm gonna get screwed.
Have just spent 3hrs in line at Vic Roads (as I was directed to do) & then was told I have to make an appointment.
I have fulfilled all requirements & so they do not need an RWC & they do not need to sight the bike.

BUT

The earliest appointment they could give me was 1 DAY AFTER my current rego expires. So, because the bike will legaly be unregistered on the day of the appointment, they are going to treat it as an unregistered vehicle & so I have to go get a RWC, + I will then have to pay for the appointment because it's an unregistered vehicle. Where if it was still registered then the appointment would be free.

f***kers

I have 3 choices.
1) Do as above
2) Pay my Qld rego & leave it until next year.
3) Pay my Qld rego & then get it transfered. but if I do this I must pay the Vic rego & then try to get a refund from Qld Transport. But then SOME of the Qld rego is non-refundable. In total about 65% of it. So I'll be stuffed if I'm gonna pay it & then have to forfeit $300 a few days later.

I think I'll take option #2.

Option 2 sounds the way to go.

Get an appointment at a country site. You might have to ride an hour but Vicroads has offices in rural centers. They quite often have vacancies. Enjoy the ride in the country. Come up with some crap like "staying with a friend in [insert name of hicksville here] for a while..."

Be careful if you try option 2.

I'll try that. thanks.
I did ask for an appointment at ANY Vic Roads office, but maybe they only checked the east side or possibly only Melb metro.
I'll call again tomorrow & ask.

One thing that amazes me.
I was on hold for at least 15 to 25mins each of 3 times I called Vic roads today.
I also called Qld Transport today. I was answered, transferred & question answered within 5mins.

Bloody amazing.

Fellars not knowing the licencing system over there do you have a 14 day grace period to get the rego renewed after it has expired I know that here in WA that use to be the case but who knows things may have changed. I was only asking as if this is the case you will have another option (food for thought).

Yep, I asked about that today when I was at vic roads office.
The guy said that in Vic there is a 3mth grace period.
But because I'm transferring rego from Qld to Vic that doesn't apply to me.
The fact that at the time of the appointment (1 day AFTER mine expires) the bike is actually unregistered, then it's classed as a new registration. The grace period doesn't apply.

You'll never believe what just happened.
I also, need to say that my office is directly across the rd from the Burwood Vic Roads office, so getting there is not a problem.

I called Vic Roads again just now to check on regional offices as suggested, cause I couldn't get an appointment blah blah blah...

Amazingly, I didn't have to wait on hold at all. I got straight through to someone. I explained the issue & all the dramas I'd been having.
First thing he said was that I had been told bull crap. I WAS eligable for the greace period & the appointment after my rego expired would be fine.
This guy first booked me into Hoppers Crossing on Thursday Woo Hoo.... THEN he says, you are at Burwood is that right. I said Yep.
He says, there are several appointments available at the Burwood office TODAY. So I'm booked in for 3.45 TODAY.
Why couldn't the guy do that yesterday after I stood in line for nearly 3hrs to talk to him.....................

And yes Volvi it's $515.00 + $14 for the new plate.
