piston upgrade keeps killing my starter..
#1
I just bought a 2001 hayabusa, the guy i bought it from put a piston kit in it, he told me that he has had to replace 3 starters already and i needed to do a 12v upgrade, add another battery and do a cross over on the batterys. I realy have no clue about this.. the bike starts with no problems cold after riding for a wile it takes a wile to start back up, This bike is a Canadian edition.. im not sure if there is much of a difference when it comes to the starters just adding all the info that i have :)
Can someone please tell me what i need to do about this problem or what a 12v upgrade is? also if i do nothing is my bigest problem going to be replacing another starter or something more major? Thanks :)

Your not from around here (Aust) are you?

The 12v upgrade usually involves using 2 batterys in series to start the bike (ie 24v) but still using one battery to run the rest of the electric's, charging the 2nd battery is the only headache as it wont charge from the bikes reg/rect.

A quick explanation is to install the 2nd battery between the starter relay and the starter motor, if this makes no sense at all then you should get someone to do it for you.

your cam timing determines actual CR..check the numbers

sorry gaz but compression ratio is just straight math ie: how much difference from space above piston at BDC to space at TDC. cam timing can affect cylinder filling and the final presures realised but not the ratio.

Agree Tom , however I stated actual CR.
What CR does the starter motor see when being crank over ? theoretical or dynamic....

sorry...... but just 1 suggestion for the the guy

what the term a "piston kit" actually means god knows

Egyptian Thanks for all the info guys...
I really dont know alot about the busa's or anything about motor work on them. the guy i bought this from was big on racing so he told me "piston kit" lol im asuming biger pistons.. i do know that the bike has alot of compression from the info i gathered thats whats killing the starters.
please bare with me i went from a 600 SRAD to the hayabusa the only custom work i have had done is chrome and paint

here is a pic of the srad
