RACV Roadside useless
#1
After going to the pictures in Burke St. City last night I walked out of the cinema at 11.30pm to find I had a screw in my near new H.P.X Pilot rear tyre and the tyre was fully flat. I called the R.AC.V. and arranged a tow back to Croydon. After about an hour and a half the towie rang me and said he may not be able to transport my bike but came out to give it shot anyway.
The problem is that the trucks have a cradle (that is secured to the tray) that the rear tyre fits into, but, the cradle only measures around 130mm (guesstimate!) and most sports bikes have much larger rear tyres - my Busa's rear is 190.
So if your rear is flat, the cradle edges would most likely do damage to your rim......no thanks!! And even if it was'nt flat the bike would not be secured properly!!
So if your in the R.A.C.V. for the towing side of things, maybe you should re-think your membership. The other rider I was with had upgraded his membership and rides a GSX-R 750 with the same size tyre......also no good to tow!!
In the end I got the towie to call a roadside car to pump the tyre up and then visited every servo on the way home to keep it inflated. Luckily the screw stayed in the tyre but it was a slow ride and I got home around 3am. Not to mention the danger side of things.
I rang R.A.C.V. today and reported this to them and they said they would investigate and get back to me within 5-10 days.
This is for all riders to see and was posted first on the Australian Hayabusa Club discussion board. Life is a Highway

Particularly sucks as they do specifically have motorcycle category, and you are not just paying for car roadside assistance to be applied to your bike...

I too had a problem with RACV after getting a puncture miles from anywhere where the mobile didn't work.
Fortunately i was near a house who allowed me to use their phone, but after numerous call and waiting 3 hours I hitched a lift after leaving the bike in the front yard. I was home before the RACV called to say they had arrived.
I returned with the car and took my tyre to be fixed.
I now carry a can of Motul tyre repair as well as a small pump and gauge under my seat just in case.

Well that's the norm when you ride motor bikes don't trust anyone to come and help its all a little to hard for them that's why I carry a plug kit and a small pump in the tail it may take a little while to inflate the tyre enough to get you to a servo but its quicker it also helps to have a centre stand they are well worth the money

The lesson in all this is, if you ride the meanest bike on the planet, you are bound to get a 'screw in' now and again.
