Utegirl: Are you related to Utegrl from Kyneton, web site designer ?
No, I'm Utegirl from Heathcote Park Raceway, I had trouble getting a name when I was registering
I am showing extreme ignorance - is 'DYO' Drive Your Own or something like that?
Deemester,
Dial your own = you nominate the time you will run.
That is the way they "handicap" the lights to produce close racing. You will get a good idea of what time to "dail in" after you have done a few practice runs.
eg. Say you run mid 10 sec times you might nominate 10.5 as your "dail in".
The person you are racing may be on a slower bike and be running 11.5 , so say he/she will dial in a 11.5
When you come to the staging area the guy controlling the lights will dial in each of your respective times into the Xmas tree. With that information you opponent will be on his/her way 1.0 seconds BEFORE you get to launch. that's how the handicap feature works. It's great fun ! and usually very close at the end.
Beware though. If you go FASTER than the time you nominate you BREAK OUT So the win goes automatically to your opponent.
Sorry if this sounds/reads confusing, it really is quite easy to understand once you are there. The hardest part is getting a good CONSISTENT launch. The way you anticipate and read the lights then launch are the keys to a good run.
Have fun. it's a different hoot.
No, that was explained very well. Thanks.
$ 50 to race, $ 15 to spectate
