Winter Service

Brakes: Sintered metal pads. Any brand - they're all pretty much the same these days. More important is that you have braided brake lines. Much better feel and quicker response.

Air filters: K&J High Flow Filtercharger requires cleaning every 30,000 kays or so (wash and re-oil). Costs less than a stock OEM and is re-usable. Seen test results that show a dirty K&J Filtercharger with a better air flow than a new OEM paper filter.
BMC I've heard is also good. Seen dyno charts with both and there is bugger all (if any) difference between them. Just prefer K&J 'cos it's all I've ever used.

Chain: EK is probably the best (x-ring type). Used by Rossi so it's gotta be good. Heard all good things about this. Will be replacing mine with one when needed.

Tyres: Getting Pirelli Diablo Corsa's next (only been using Briggies OEM thus far). Have heard nothing but good about them.

This is purely my opinion only, but hopefully it helps.

More importantly in winter is your oil. Make sure it has the correct viscosity rating for the reduced operating temperature range.

1: EBC HH pads. Absolute kick arse braking with that awesome "zooom" sound when you apply them.
2: BMC race filter or K&N race filter. I have not heard of K&J filters unless the boyz in whittlesea are making their own
3: OEM with OEM front sprocket lasted 30,000KM (with more to go) on my bus with extreme punishment and less than ideal maintenance. Would strongly suggest a scottoiler for extended chain life.
4: Not a fan of the Pilots due to the lack of warning before they let go. Watched a mate (in front of me) have a massive front end lose (and thus stack) on pilots. But hey, I loved the 207RR on the bus and use 208GP on the thou. But these tyres aren't speed rated for the bus and this WILL have an effect on insurance claims. Though this may have changed...

What worked for me most probably won't for you...but its a start

Definately recomment the Scottoiler. Where have you got your's mounted FFG? Mines on the reverse side of the number plate (rear guard) but I've heard on the UK site that most people are mounting them under the pillion seat on the sub-frame (between the fairing and the sub-frame). Considering mounting mine here so it's concealed and out of the way.

Not sure what pads Balls put on mine but they are ACE , just ask him for a set of them.

I don't know much about chains...

Tyres...I can't fault the Pirellis.

Air filter...B & C I think.

Have the EBC HH sintered, found them to be very noisy initially, may check out other brands, supposedly Ben from Bikes and Bits Brighton reccomends a new english one, will research closer to when needed.

Have BMC racer, no regrets.

Cant fathom the scottier lub system on my bike even if good. Will just do regular maintenance on preferred DID gold chain.

Still cant go past Pirelli for rubbers here.

And still only use Penzoil, changed regularly.

44.000 on the clock and as good as new here. Jamie wonder how your doing on 100k+, any major stuff to watch out for?

Currently useing ebc HH , nice feel but the discs let them down. Considering new rotors, not sure yet which ones, also have braided lines and brakes still not as good as I want them to be.

Have BMC race filter, long lasting and washable as many times as you like, (usually once every 2 months or a trip too the island.)

Regina 530 ort4 z-ring chain, considered going 520 but with the power of the bus it would wear out too quick....

Metzeler sportec M-1 tyres 120/65 and 190/50, excellent feel, heat up real quick, good wet weather traction and good for a 1min:50 around the creek without any slides. (and I've tried a few, let me tell ya)

As for oil I used to use motul 300v 5w40 in winter, but changed on Col's recomendation to Motorex power syn4t 5w40, apparently works better in the bus. (will soon find out) changing every 3000klm or a big trip, filter every second oil change

Cheers....Paul
