Check the american2 org, link is on the top right hand side of this page under gen2, I'm pretty sure there is a recent post there.

Every thermo fan I gave come across runs off the temp sensor not the dash gauge. Why run something important as a fan of a secondary unit?

Gen 1 have a temp switch in the radiator
Gen 2 are ecu switched and ecu uses the temp sender for its info

there should be no reason why you cannot do the toggle switch on a gen 2 either... DC is all about power pulling not supplying... you can have 2 power supplies as long as they don't short each other or the unit being provided isn't regulated (I thing pre 1970 are not regulated LOL). the shorting is the biggest issue.

I had my Gen1 done as part of an ECU flash. Just one of the many benefits of reflashing of course.
