Tyres - Gen2 Busa

I have an 09 Busa. The OEM rear (BT015) is due for replacement, however the OEM front (BT015) still has plenty of life left.

I understand it is ideal to replace both at the same timem, but, I also hate throwing money away. If I wanted to keep the front, would putting a BT016 or BT023 on the rear be detrimental to the bike's handling?

Is there some other tyre that would 'match' with the front that would be more suitable?

I replaced my oem rear tyre with a michelin pilot power and i think it was a good match with the oem front BT015.
I did not notice any difference in the bikes handling

You dont have to replace them at the same time. Tyres usually wear 2:1 (two fronts to one year or is it the other way around). It is ideal to use a matching pair but no real rpoblem if you use "similar" tyres ie both soft or both harder.

Popular tyres of Busa owners are

Avons (Greeny is SA swears by them as does Madmax if I recall)
Others use a combo of PilotPower front (these have been repalced by the Pilot Pure i believe) and Pilot Road rear.

I and many other use Pilot Road 2CT on front and back and get excellent mileage (app 15k+).

Make sure the front is worth keeping on. I was in the same position only the front T. had a chunk sliced off it on the side wall. So it was stupid to keep it when the R. needed changing at around 7000km, even though there was lots of tread left in the F.
Dunlop RoadSmarts are fantastic, as are Metzler M5's.
OEM 015 are below average these days.
The ST tyre by Bridgestone, 023's are very good too. I would consider a pair of these rather than put odd ones on. The warm-up rates on both tyres should ideally be matched, but if you are not fussy, then anything will do. On a Hayabusa though, just anything will not do.

I agree with Steventh...I am currently using Michelin 2CT and I've put about 9000kms on them so far and they still have a fair bit of meat on them (will probably need a rear before Tathra), but I used Avons on my '03 and they were pretty good too. Thinking about giving the Conti Road Attack 2's a run next though just to try them out.

the 015s are only $400.00 a set + $30.00 postage if you got good wear out of them.

Thats not the OEM 015's, but I fit a lot of them and most are impressed with them.

i run conti road attacks on the busa great tyre.the 1400 i just bought has 2ct/s on it they are good to.. rode from moree to lismore via tenterfield on sat in the dry an back today in the wet seem good from wot the last owner said they have 12000 ks on them an still going..if u put the conti road attack 2 on can u post wot u think of them. would like to give them ago maybe they will be a contender for the 2cts...

These days the 015's are a little behind the times. The 023's are superb ST tyres, as are the RoadSmarts. The Meltzler M5's will also do the odd track day or two without disgrace.
I would not use different tyres F-R due to the different warm-up rates.
No point skimping a few dollars when you LIFE depends on them.

Thanks for the advise. I bit the bullet and replaced front & rear. I ended up with Pilot Road 2's. I hear they are supposed to be pretty good - not the 'ultimate' in grip, but good for old time plodders like me!

I've been using Pilot road 2's and are very happy with them. I think you'll find them very good compared to the oem bridgestones, especially when cold.

I think for peace of mind, you did the RIGHT THING.
