Tom Tom GPS.

Hi all.
Am considering buying a GPS system and am looking at the Tom Tom, Rider,Edition 2.
Want a system that is basically bike but is adaptable for car and bike - was looking at GO 950 ,but have been told it's not for bikes,whereas the R.E.2 is usable for both.
Have also been told tom tom do not have the lag of some other systems.
RE2 with car adapter is around $1000 , not cheap. Dick Smith, but have not shopped around yet.
So does any body have one, know of one or can offer an opinion on other brands or alternatives?

I have the Tom Tom 720 and use it both in the car and on the bike. I got the Ram mount for the bike and used it for the trip around Australia without problem. If its raining I fit a shower cap over it and its dry. Cheaper and newer software than the bike unit IMO

I was looking at the Garmin Zumo for a while. I think the 660 is the latest version and is adaptable for a car. The opinions I got from others was that it was better than the Tom Tom but as always opinions vary.

In the end I made my decision and bought a waterproof, rip resistant map from a travel shop for $10. So far it has never let me down.

I have the Garmin Zumo660. It is made for bikes but just as happy in a car as it adapts the screens between the mounts. Look on shopbot.com.au for the best price but expect around $800. Very good on my recent trip and fine for weather and fuel splashes by design. Bluetooths to your helmet headset (if you have one) for instructions as well as to your phone.

Very happy with it.

i want a tom tom rider 2 for the sole reason that i want to be told where to go by homer simpson

Go the Garmin. they are a far better quality satelite receiver. They have far more accurate positioning capability.

My garmin works well in places where the built-in car (Alpine used in BMW's & the like) satnav loses satelite signal.
