Dumb Question

Ill ask it anyway, for the sake of embarrasing myself.

How do I get the front wheel off the ground without a centre stand, I suspect something funky with the steering head bearings, feel a bit loose...not to mention Ill need my first set of new tyres soon...any tricks to this please...

s never dumb to ask mate ok once its on the centre stand just pop a jack under the bike where the sump is an just slowly jack the bike till the tyre has cleared the ground .........

im sure other guys here have better opinions on this but thats whats i do mate

No centre stand on the bike, Im afraid ...looks like it was taken off to accomodate the pipes... dont you hate being the second owner of a bike you know next to nothing about aside from the fact its ballistic.... I may have to procure a centre stand yes, ???

Prop it up on a block of timber under the headers, they will be able to support it safely.
Alternately if you are worried about your headers, take your fairings off, ram air tubes out, air box off. Then loop a material sling through the ram air slots in the frame, and chain block it up.

I wouldnt put a jack on a sump without a bit of wood or similar in betwen, pretty thin they are.

For a quick method, I usually pull the bike over on its sidestand, and block the other side up, but its fairly dodgy.

Marginally less dodgy is a tiedown under the frame neck if you have a convenient rafter above. With two people its easy to lift the bike bit by bit using the tiedown, one lifts, other tightens tiedown.

Be careful, both those methods can result in the bike contacting hard things without a tyre in between.

see mate every 1 here has a diffrent method of doing it so its not a dumb question when i lowered the rear of the bike i used the race stand an a support jack under the sump so it wouldnt move around

If you have a rear race stand put that on then put jack under where the headers meet and jack it up (slowly) - front will be off ground ... alternalty bend you knees ;)

Centre stand is not standard on a Busa.

Great Info Guys thankyou very much... And Bill No I didnt know that , I see a bracket under there and assumed its where a centre stand was..there is also this annoying aluminum bracket that holds the two halves of the lower fairing together it sticks out about half in inch lower than the fairing actual , Its the first thing to scrape, it doesnt look like its original ... Ah well , I dont mind tinkering around... anothr fixer upperer...

when i removed the front wheel on the 650f i used the rafters in the roof in the shed, you could use the swing set in the backyard as well , wrap a ratchet rope around the frame and slowly tighnen it until the front wheel lifts and then support the sump with a brick, support the back wheel with a choc and she'll be right. I admit not the ideal way but it worked for me.

Strap or chain block from over head is the safest way as just using the jear stand and a jack unloads the rear stand and can allow the bike to fall. It has happened to me.
