Had to go to Brisbane for work.
Left the bike at the airport on Tuesday morning & came back yesterday arvo.
I went to put the key in the ignition & noticed that the little weather cover was not across the key hole. After looking closely I could see the bent steel where someone has inserted something & tried to turn the ignition.
I looked closer & then I saw the hammer marks & broken casting.
They've used a steel bar & a hammer & tried to smash the entire ignition chamber off the front of the clamp.
They were either disturbed, or the alarm went off & they ran. I reported it to the cops & have a copy of the report.
I was still able to insert the key & ride home.
Am getting a quote from Mick Hone today to fix it. We'll see what the insurance says.

Someone tried the same thing on my little SV some months back. Cost the insurance company nearly $1000 to replace all the barrels, labour and towing. I wasn't able to start the bike to ride it to the workshop unfortunately.
I now use a visible wheel lock on the rear wheel, even if they unlock it it'll be a bitch to move (get about half a turn out of the wheel). And if they really want to take it, they'll have a ute or truck with hoist anyway.

Just had the insurance quote done at Mick Hone.
$1330.00 for a new lock set, new clamp bracket, & fitting.
Will get that to the insurance crowd today.

I did a job at brisbane airport yesterday that took 3 hours. Accidentally left the key in the bike the whole time. Lucky she was still there when I got back.

November last year I posted on here that I insured my bike with ebike insurance.
Full comp value of $12,500. (stock 2004)
$329 / yr ($450 excess)
Some were sceptical & asked me to post claim info if I ever had one.
So here it is.
Last week someone tried to steal my bike from the airport & damaged the ignition & steering lock unit.
Needs a full lock set & ignition unit replacement & some other damage fixed.
I initiated a claim via phone last Thursday (1st May), I was requested to get ONE quote from my choice of repairer (Mick Hone).
I did report it to the police & I supplied a copy of the police report to the insurance company.
The claim was approved Tuesday (6th May) & a fax was sent to Mick Hone same day to confirm & go ahead with the repair work.
Approval & confirmation within 3 business days after the claim was initiated.
I'm happy.
I've got my yrs premium back & a wole lot more.
