First post today. Prompted by a little problem I have. Bought my Busa last November but what with the weather and settling in to a new town have not had a chance to put many ks on it until I recently did a trip down south.

Took the cowards way and freighted my bike and myself from Townsville to Adelaide where a mate and myself rode across to Bendigo, joined by another mate from Canberra. Based ourselves there and did the GOR and all the other rides within a 300 k radius of Bendigo. Then rode to Canberra and trucked bike back from there. (Can recommend Bikes Only for transport).

So after putting on 4000ks thought I would change the oil, and yup you guessed it, stripped the thread on the sump. Thought I would Google it and lo and behold find the Hayabusa club and a thread talking about this problem, with a chap from Townsville no less! (Must be something to do with the weather).

Anyway now have to fix it and wondering if anyone has successfully used Helicoil and whether they had to remove the bottom sump plate which looks a bit fiddly, involving removing exhausts, fan and a few pipes?

My bike is a 7/2004 model which has been resprayed metallic black. Has Madaz exhausts, Bagster, Power Commander, K&N filter, limiter removed, braided lines, wave discs and a few other bits. Really pleased with it to date. Will post some photos soon.

Previous bike was a BMW R1100s and prior to that a Honda VFR800. Also have a 1974 BMW R90/6 which is terrific for getting around Townsville.
