I use AUTOSOL polish and then wax with MR Sheen.
It tarnishes after getting real wet but is ok for showers.

Heres a few things i use, The first is the good ol polisher on the grinder (mind you its a very dirty way but the best) and the second is a lot more elbow grease but great for touchups!

Hi Rob,
I use Autosol as well, if things need a bit more than a cloth rub use it with some steel wool.

Mothers Mag and Aluminium Cleaner is the best. Shine lasts longer too.

Or you could just chrome it... Drool

Ditto autosol.
For fixings, like the allen screws used to keep bits on the bike (fairings etc), I use the pedestal drill, some 3M sanding cloths (green or brown) to clean them up then autosol.

HI,

I have started my wheel's lip polishing, will post the pic's once the job is complete. Progress so far.....
1) Got the paint remover from Bunnings and it has worked great.
2) Already have removed paint from the rear wheel - will polish the same some time in next week using a drill with polish wheel.

I had read few places that the paint was difficult to remove - but that was not the case here, all of the paint on which the paint remover was applied has come off evenly and smoothly.

Cheers,

Bill

Not trying to be smartarse here, but have you given any thought to plating?

I had my K6 standard rims plated when new, total cost of $1200 from Electromold in Melbourne. The only thing i use to clean them is a little WD 40 or similar product on a rag, a quick wipe and they're done.

Mind you I had the money to spend (at the time!!)

You can see a photo of the rims in my gallery.

that's not smart arse at all- not my rims that need cleaning tho- and if i had the money i'd be buying some sweet chrome show wheels to match the paint. Plus i'm in bris, so melb company is no good. but thanks for the input.

the reason that polished parts dull quickly is because people wash them with solvents.

when you wash your bike, keep the bikewash off the polished parts

use kero or diesel to clean them up and the lustre wil last longer

also, after you have autosol'd the alloy, give it a coat of the same wax you top coat wax the bike with, or MR sheen it.

Hi Guys,

Excellent advice,
Below are my wheels after the paint removal and just a good wash. After removing the paint I cleaned them with JIF Cream, (some stuff what my misses buys for her kitchen). I also use JIF to clean all the aluminum parts and the results are fantastic - + is that JIF costs only 1.99$ :).

Cheers,
