ZX12R Makes room for BMW
#1
My good mate Mike, who had his bike knocked over with mine in Canberra back in March, traded his ZX12R this morning on a BMW K1200S.
We tested a demo bike for an hour or so and he fell in love with the Beemers extra smoothness and comfort.
He reckons the throttle response was better from lower revs than the ZX and the thing rides like on rails. He also loved the electronic suspension adjustment on the fly.
He would have loved a Busa but wanted something different and more technologically advanced.

I will be able to give a Busa v BMW comparro in a few weeks.

Hi Busgo.
I recently bought a magazine called "Fast Bikes" (it's from the UK) and it has a comparison of the K1200S, ZX12R, Busa and Blackbird.

Busa won in everything for all 4 judges... except speed, though they quoted stock Busa doing the quarter mile in 11.43, which I don't understand. I did an 11.6, and my take offs are crap... Decent riders are doing low 10's easily...

It appears that Mike is going to have to wait awhile for his new bike.
BMW claim there is a 1 month delivery delay unless he buys a demo model.
I'm guessing he will wait.

Anyone want to buy a very good ZX12R with 29,000ks on it. They offered him about $12k trade I think.
It has Yoshimura can (plus brand new original),Bagster, ventura rack and bag, Geelong carbon hugger and tank pad plus scott oiler fitted.
If he trades it he will strip off the extras I think.

okay Ive ridden on the road with a brand new K1200S against my redblack 99......

fark they go alright hey? I kept up with him until 220 or so, and then I was gone, mainly because he is still running in...but around sweepers and large corners it was down to rider, not the bike......so needless to say he was in front most of the time...

we did a couple hundred k's on a BMW club ride, with me and him going ahead for a huge blast every five minutes or so...you can really tell the lack of brake dive too on the front end...

I'd love one too, but not for close to 30 grand....

They sound like a great bike, and at least BMW has been upgrading models of late unlike the BUS.
The roll on comparision is interesting and illustrates useable street power in the revs we use most.

I'm sure BMW will step up to the plate with more performance bikes as times marches on. At least they offer an alternative to the boring Japanese mold.

Well Mike finally got onto his new Beemer today.
5 of our Busa members escorted him out of town to give it a burl through the sweepers around Swansea.
Mike loves it. His initial impressions are that he loves the handling and suspension changes on the fly (they really do make a whopping difference with the sport setting not too different to his ZX12R). The comfort, mirrors, stand, finish and power are terrific.
BUT he does not like the brakes which are servo assisted and don't work when the engine is not running. This makes manourvering the bike a bit worrying when there is no power.
$28,000 with panniers.

We will give it a full workout up Thunderbolt's and down the Oxley.

A bloke I know with a mint & very low K 99 went into BMW for a test ride on that thing. He liked it but was not impressed with the trade in offer ($8000) on a $27000 bike

No deal
