Good story. I kept reading looking for how being in the wrong gear caused the accident. Got all the way to the end before realising it wasn't being in the wrong riding gear on the bike.
Reminds me of Fastcat on SH.ORG, a skillful female rider who was in the right gear, but still suffered horrible injuries after her bag (strapped to the bike) came loose and got tangled in the rear wheel. She was riding with friends (in extreme shock) who had to put up with emergency services treating Fastcat as an idiot rider who was going too fast and doing something stupid.
In the old days they always said that luggage should be within that triangle formed by the points from the top of your head and the two axles - basically on the tank. Those racks put the weight just where you don't want it - pass the rear axle.
Yeah, throwdown, I thought the same thing...
Some one should tell this girl... (and maybe point out she is facing the wrong way...)
or is she a tank bag... complete with tank bra...
