You need to test the load, not the volts to get an accurate test.. I think supercheap has testers for under $20???

when my gen 1 would go flat every year or so I would get it from Batteryworld. This bike no issues at all re battery. I think I must have had an issue on the gen 1

Ok I'll test it. I've got a good multimeter with the dial but no idea how to really use it not sure if it does load but I'll get it sorted. I'll look I'm the manual how to check the alternator to. Cheers for the advice boys

Not trying to lead you down a KTM path with thus as I thought you just wanted to buy a newie....

BUT

How long are you cranking each time? The recommended batteries can do multiple 2-5 second starts without a failure but if you are doing say.... 15-30 second starts then the best OEM battery will die!

Next is take your battery to a battery specialist, they should be able to give you a free assessment of your battery condition. It's the CCA rating to focus on, but bigger ain't always better... Look for deep cycle!

If you need to buy a new battery then leave $50-75 to by a trickle charger like the boat owners have. These units actually charge and discharge a battery over time to keep it fully operational. You can get these any where from specialists to Bunnings.
