Pretty new to busas myself
But I'm under the impression that they will only start
With clutch in AND in neutral

Always needs the clutch in but not necessarily in N

Check the terminals first but otherwise your battery may not be in as good condition as you think and the little extra drag of cranking in gear is showing it

Might be a silly question but is side stand up when trying to start in gear?
Silly question 2... when trying to start in gear is it turning over at normal speed before stopping, and is the stopping sudden and complete?

reason for asking is that you cannot run a busa in gear with side stand down, doesn't matter if clutch is in or not, so maybe if there is no actual cranking issues your side stand switch might be faulty. A simple check is to bypass switch and try it again....

Thanks for the replies.
Side stand is up and I am sitting on it when trying to start in gear, (also clutch in)
I have been starting it this way (in gear) and the normal way (in neutral) for a good 4 years.
I have only just recently noticed it doesn't spin over a fast as it use to when in neutral.
Never had any issues starting in gear either, got a brand new battery just last week, and first time I went to start it in gear it failed.
By that I mean it cranks over maybe one or two times and stops, just as it would if the battery is flat.
Battery is good 180 cca and voltage is good 12.9v.

Just a bit lost as to what it could be.
Any more information is greatly appreciated.
Cheers

=As long as load voltage stays good on battery then looks like you need to investigate further (don't forget even a new batt can be f****d thats why they have a warranty)... I would start with starter motor as you suspect.

As Maj said above, check all electrical connections, especially the Regulator/Rectifier.

Turned out to be the starter, pretty much ceased up and rusty for some weird reason.

Oil is a tad milky, so has got some water in it, not sure how the oil has gotten water in it, radiator is still full, possibly through the starter as the starter gears are rusty.

Question now is, what is the best way to flush the motor out?
I am guessing the milky oil has gone right through the motor.
Is there a recommended easy way to flush motors out?
Might start another thread on this topic.
Cheers.

Keeping on this thread... There is many ways for coolant to get into system and it takes very little to change oil colour. But first check all your external gaskets including the oil filler cap o-ring as rain/dew could be getting in while sitting. The ole girls rubbers are all 4-5 yrs old now dude lol
