Straddle cranes

Anyone driven one ?

Applied for a position at the Port in Lyttelton on the advice of a couple of mates who I used to work with a couple of years ago before I was made redundant, yet again. Thought it was time for something new so, I applied ... 3 months later I got the call ..that was last month

A few interviews later, literacy, maths, height test, medical and drugs, as you do and a couple of interviews later, the last one saw me climbing up the ladder of a Straddle, 4 containers high, for a squirt around the port. It's a big unit.

I always thought getting my Pilots license was the cream on the cake, 20 minutes in a straddle was something again. Sitting sideways as you're going forward, 4 big wheels and a diesel motor on each side, computers everywhere. Looking down you don't need to be scared of heights in that glass floored cab, 15 m off the deck.

Still shaking

Got the call today and I passed, starting early Dec, pretty chuffed , just a bit of training to go
