Has anyone modified their seat cowl so it can go on and off the bike without having to remove the grab rail every time ?

Lots of us have. Most do it with a dremmel, slowly!

Gen 2 is a little more complicated...
you have to cut into the base plate. but still same old....
mask, and slowly, slowly......
