Oggy Knobbs

to try and limit any untoward damage to my beautiful black Busa, I ordered a set of Oggy Knobbs. The set up weighs 5.5 kg! Have read they are worth having. Any comments or experience?

Sounds like you may have ordered what i have on my K9, Multi Piece Kit, No Cut, mounts infront of Engine to Chassis, Im of the opinion that you could lift the K9 up via the Oggynob Framework and a Block n Tackle!!

Some weight and a little Expensive, Yes, but worth it in my eyes!!

In my opinion all these knobbs are a complete waste of money. In addition they spoil the beatuful flowing lines of the bike Smitten
The reasons are as follows:
1) They do not prevent the damage to the bike - If you crash it properly, nothing can protect it. Maybe some pieces will be less broken. What is the point? You still have to replace them and they will not sell them to you cheaper because you replacing only a bit broken fairings insted of totally destroyed one.
2) Do you get a discount from your insurance compay because you fitted the knobbs to minimise the damage in a case of accident? NO! So who gives a shit.
3) Some of these knobbs can potentially cause even more damage to the frame or the engine by the way they are attached to them.
4) They add weight to the already chubby bike. (sorry darling)

So there, think about it. We all want to protect our joy but the best way to do it is to keep learning to ride better, be sensible on the road and expext the most idiotic behaviour from the drivers around you Scary

Had my bike 12 years now, never fallen over, never dropped. To me, Oggy knobs for you pride and joy are like saying - "yep - I'm planning on dropping or throwing her away someday"

On a track bike or a stunter where not coming off means -"you just aint trying hard enough" I could understand and appreciate them, I like to ride hard, but I'm not about to just let it fall over, so not for me thanks.

Thanks for the comments. In my 37 years of riding my luck is 'if I got em I'll never need em. If I don't got 'em, somehow through my fault or another's they would have come in handy' The smallest damage on the fairing will cost a bomb. Yes they are ugly but so is a scratched bike.
I agree, worth having

The biggest problem with "knobs" is that they concentrate the impact directly onto one point wheras with out them the impact is spread over a much larger broader area. The result is that a drop from a side stand they will maybe save your fairing but on a larger scale accident they will probably turn what would have been cosmetic damage into structural damage.
To quote the words of the late great Bobby Martin who most probably was Aust best authority on motorcycle frames. "We have never done so much frame straightening work since Oggy knobs became fashionable"
RIP Bob
So it's again the old your bike your call decision to be made

Like the hayabusa without them, but the 5.5kilos sounds like extra weight I dont need when I weigh 118 kilos suited up.

Appreciate all your replys. Here is the outcome. Had them installed yesterday
1) yes they are a bit ugly
2) yes they will damage the frame in a good crash but it is easy to have the insurance companies write a bike off these days
3) yes the kit is heavy
4) yes the bike is protected if it falls over, low speed
5) Busa can not cool itself as well as it used to. The kit is so near the cooling fans. It now consistently runs at a higher temperature
6) now torn about having Oggy knobs installed
7) remember people 'for every action there is a reaction'

I'll leave them on till the next service and make a decsion then.
