I have always used washing powder, and it also lets you know where the blood was coming from. Which reminds me, when I was a kid, one of my grandfathers remedies for anything was to put metho on it. Not sure if it helped cuts and scratches, but none of us kids ever went to see grandad if we were bleeding, so he got to talk to the adults in peace. If we went to nana instead, we got watered down dettol, half a dozen hugs and kisses, a bandaid and a kingston bikkie.

Back on topic, margarine or butter ( not sure which ) on a scott towell is supposed to take grease off too. I was going to try it once, but ended up making a sandwich instead.

Baby wet wipes work well too, also handy after a big night on the scotch.
