1st Gear whine

1of my riding buddies has a 2000 Busa that really whines in 1st gear, Mine makes a small amount of noise, but his whines like a supercharger. It has done since he bought it, about 25,000kms ago. his dealer told him its okay as some of the hayabusa came out with special race gears that are noisier than normal....sounds crap to me. Its not whine from sprockets. Any Ideas, is this for real....cheers

Not from Action was it? Friggin dealership mechanics etc... that I've dealt with are absolute liars and do it shamelessly.

So long as it's working perfectly, your mate should just wear earplugs to block out the noise. My gearbox is noisey on gear changes, but it's done 170,000km and is performing beautifully so who cares?

Bugsy had a mate who's box whined like a bitch from new .................... he flogged it without mercy and it never gave up on him. But was as noisy as hell without doubt.

Try running Motul 5100 in it. It shut the 1st gear whine up on my ZX12r which was horrendous, even to the point of being embarrassing

Did you happen to ask the dealership it the "race gears" have any other benifit other than a noise? :)

They tried to tell him only a few came out with the Special straight cut gears for racing, as they were stronger, and hench noisier( duhhh, dont they all have straight cut gears). I politely told him they were full of shit.
My busa whines in 1st as well, but its only minor, whereas his sounds like a supercharger winding up, sounds impressive but a little annoying.

Yeah ive got to do a service in it for him this week so will try that and see if it helps...Thanks for that tip.

Nope not from action. It was an "unnamed" Suzuki dealer here in Christchurch New Zealand, the stealerships sound all the same.
