Idle Rises When Hot
#1
Hey all,
Rode the black beast to Tamworth on the weekend and noticed that when I'm stopped (at lights or whatever) that the idle rises from about 1200rpm up to about 1400-1500rpm. Can anyone tell me what could be causing this?

Cheers in advance
Craig

Nah mate...no fan......bike temp is pretty well controlled,....just seems to be after riding for a while the idle rises when I'm at a standstill.

Well, I suppose it makes sense: when you're moving, you have air blowing into the radiator/engine, which cools the bike. When you stop, you don't have that airflow, so your engine temperature will rise.

Oh, sorry. Not paying attention.
Maybe your engine needs to idle a little faster when you are stopped, since it's not getting the ram-air effect?

It's never done it before (neither did the '03 model I had previously)

Is your choke on a little bit, maybe?

Sticky throttle cable?

To eliminate them, I'll be lubing the cables this weekend. Thanks for bumping my brain into gear.

Just make sure the cables do not have nylon liners...if so and you oil them it stuffs them up. I would check the throttle linkage for binding when hot.
Smoke me a kipper I'll be home in time for breakfast
