Cam chain tensioner and / or cam chain replacement

Paul,
See my earlier reference to warming up.
The handbook says that the oil pressure is not strong enough for lubrication at idle speed.
You should warm up at between 2 and 3 thousand revs for 30 seconds at least.
Letting it sit idling may damage it as much as extreme usage.
Also riding at below 3000 rpm may not be too good for it either.

Hey Paul,

re:
Quote:should I keep the revs up while warming it up ? (It'll be hard, since I use that time to fit my helmet, gloves, etc)

On your left hand grip there's a fast idle adjuster (looks like a choke mechanism, but only brings the revs up), so that's how you let it warm up at higher revs while doing that stuff. I usually take that time to lock the house, fit helmet, gloves, scratch myself, etc too!

Thanks for the tip pan - I was always under the impression that when the fast idle switch was on it sounded far too high for my like.

But now I know better so thanks

Incidentally, is there a Sydney meeting either next Monday or Tuesday ? I may be able to make it depending on the time and place seeing as I'm up there for the tennis.

Nup. No meetings next week planned yet. Just tonight, but post a time and place to stop and eat or have a coffee near where you are and whoever is free may come along and say hi...

I have around 125,000kms on my '00. About 95,000 of those are mine, and I ride around the 3-5000rpm range with the odd 6000rpm.

Decent mechanic said there was no cam chain noise at around 85,000kms. I didn't ask him to check, he was just gushing about the good condition of the busa at such high mileage. Doesn't sound all that different to when I first got the bike, but I'll get a knowledgable opinion at some point.

With the work I've done myself on the bike, I think the CCT messing up is the least of my worries.

If you don't know what you're doing, get the OEM solution fitted, - they have an excellent record worldwide with serious riders.

Throwdown thanks very much for your words of advice, they are much appreciated, just like everone else's.

Just wondering if you had any luck finding that Draggin Jeans armour?

Thanks,

Just dug them out this second. Haven't seen them for 3 years, and actually they look okay. 'Knox inside' CE Draggin Jeans armour for knees and I think thighs (4 bits in all), still in their dusty packaging.

$50 3 years ago, but just email your address and I'll send them along.
