Oil pressure...
#1
Haven't ridden much this year for one reason or another, but having finally put my bike back together, now looking forward to some summer riding.

Took the busa out today for a test ride and noticed oil pressure at 3000rpm to be around 20psi. Manual says it shouldn't be lower than 27. However, this is the reading at the bike's hottest point, and I don't know what temperature that is - the manual gives pressure reading at 60C.

So, do I assume the bike runs hotter than 60C at it's hottest point? Or should I be changing my oil? I'm using Kawa's Unicorn oil, which gives a lower pressure reading than the stuff I was using before (Shell Full Syn), but shows less debris in the oil when I change it.

Haven't ridden a lot this year, so still have about 12litres, I think - that ysed to be 3 months worth for me.

oil pressure gauge ?
Throwdown have you got an aftermarket gauge fitted?
Is it a stock bike?
if so I dont think anyone else will be able to help out as
they wouldnt know what there pressure was, as the stock
bikes only have a low oil light.

On my old turbo busa the oil pressure was about the same as yours at idle then went up to 35 when cruzing then a bit higher when under more load.

Work on about 10psi per 1000rpm. when hot...the pressure relief doesnt always crack open ..hence I know of another guy here in OZ that logs pressure , runs about 120psi.

Mine runs max 85psi at 110'C motor fully heat soaked

Remember oil temp will normally be 10 to 15'C hotter than coolant temp.

I fitted a voltmetre gauge because my bike under charges and I kept finding burnt out wires by the rectifier that needed attention every 6 months or so.

Just to balance up the look I fitted an oil pressure gauge as the two of them have to be the most useful instruments for information.

I do roughly get 10psi per 1000. What temperature does the bike get to?

cooling fan switch Fan on approx 105 c
Fan off approx 100 c

Thermostat opening temp 80.5c to 83.5c
fully opened 95c

Engine coolant temperature sensor (ect)
shows highest resistance @130c is 8 hms
But I dont know whats the highest temp it would go before going bang.

Thermostat opening at 80.5 I assume is when the temp gauge needle starts to move. If that's the case then my oil pressure is good no matter what oil I use. Thanks!
