I was not happy when original battery failed orded a gel replacement through Batteryman on ebay cheap delivered to door has lasted 18 months so far so happy with battery. Have recently invested in a 4003 Ctek charger for boat batteries and have set up to use on Busa Battery to supplement charge. All working well.

I've had similar problems and lo, changed the rectifier/regulator and problem solved.
prior to that had the trickle charger. It should only take a few minutes to restore power used for a start. The alternator can put something like 65A max. and starting peak would only be 100A (maybe) for a few seconds. So a few minutes and it should be OK.
If a bike shop is saying it needs 100km to restore the battery, go to another shop.
Second hand regulator as well.
