Riding your bike out into the driveway and back into the shed won't charge your battery.
You should be riding it at least 200ks a week or putting it on a trickle charger between starts/rides.
Once it is dead though, chuck it away and get another one and ride it long and hard - like a good woman.

I find riding once a week is prob not enough esp in Winter.

My original battery has finally given up the ghost after 7 years
Whilst I was riding everyday and clocking 50,000 odd km a year it was never a problem, now I'm lucky to ride it once a month, and every time I need to charge the battery up. It finally said enough is enough and went belly up.
Hope I get a quarter of the life out of my new one. . .
But what should I get????
-spose I'd better read through this thread and find out, and buy a little trickle charger.
Has anyone tried those solar cell ones??

my opinion stick to the oem YT12A-BS last i priced it discounted around $145. want it to last definately get a trickle charge, read up on the yuasa website lotsa gr8 info there. <i></i>

im on lucky 7 (yrs) too, still going but for how long yet, for this reason alone I'll stick with Yuasa 7 yrs+ <i></i>
I'm sure most Yuasa batteries are great, or were back in 1999.
I had a bad experience with a new one last winter and had to return it after about 4 weeks of problems. I got a $75 battery fitted at the local bike shop and it has been great for about a year now. I'll be happy if it lasts 3 years at that price.

I got a discount when I picked up the battery $155.
Also picked up an "intelligent" trickle charger to leave connected whilst it's in the shed.
So now it's ready to go . . . if I ever get the time.

1. Did YOU FULLY charge the battery prior to installing it?
2. What battery is it?
If it's a YTZ14S, the failure you are experiencing is all too commonplace. YTZ14S batteries totally suck. Some guys get lucky and get a good one, but they have an extraordinarily high failure rate from brand new, as they are AGM type batteries and must be activated upon their production. This means they will sit in stock slowly but surely discharging and begin the sulfating process that renders them virtually useless for cranking the engine. The guys that have received a good YTZ14S simply got one that hadn't been sitting in stock for very long.
My brand new YTZ14S battery did the very same thing and I FULLY charged the bitch prior to using it, but after an hour of riding, it wouldn't crank the engine a single revolution. I had to pop-start my bike. As soon as I replaced it with a new OEM YT12A-BS battery, all was fine, as I knew it would be, as I do not have charging system issues.
P.S. I will NEVER purchase another YTZ14S battery. They should be "black-listed". <i></i>

My bike under charges badly, and I spent about $650 on generator and rectifier parts to change them over, and was just about to spend a further $200 on a wiring loom, when I bought the Yuasa battery used in the Honda ST1300, and have never had to bump start again.
I use a trickle charger, but occasionally still had to bump start the OEM one. Worth a look if your charge system is cheese.
Anyone want to buy generator and recitifer off an 2003? <i></i>
