Fork stanchions
#1
The TIN coating on my o3 forks is dissapearing for the second time . the first time they were replaced under warranty at around 30k i think (that was a shit fight) and basically the coatings been coming off the new ones since i had them replaced.

I've done a fork seal and am wondering if its because of the deteriating coating, there's no roughness on the stanchion so i'm hoping that just a new seal will fix it.

Just wondering if i'm the only one that has had this problem.

Cheers, Dave.

Common problem Dave, I'm really surprised they replaced the first set.

Thanks Leonard, i owned an 01 gsxr thou and they did the same thing. Also replaced on warranty.
At the time i'd heard of a few of them that had done it but i havn't heard the same about the bus.
Hope i dont have to FORK out for some new stanchions .

How hard do you ride?

I've been looking at mine recently on my 2000 as a part of slowly overhauling everything, but they seem in very good condition. I'm rarely over 120km though, - trying to gauge wear and tear estimates.

Not particularly hard Throwdown ,but i have covered a few k's.
I dont think you will have the same problem though , because i'm pretty sure the 03's were the first to come out with the gold coating on the forks.
The stanchions that are on the bike at the moment are around 60 k old i think.
